A legit Beast Bots Episode?!
It really is a Christmas Miracle! O.O
Steel finally takes up cooking along with his fellow Beast Bots only for the Rangers to turn down their requests to spend Christmas with them. They recount how the Rangers do have families of their own expecting them, leading into the clip show portion. It’s not bad and helps to emphasis how the Rangers do have lives outside of their hero work. Something the Tzacher era barely got.
That said, it still has the issue of editing together the clips to just let them play. I feel that they’d flow a lot better and be more entertaining if the characters were talking over the clips in a back-and-forth way with some color commentary. It’s not bad since these are actually cool scenes I enjoy but they could do with a bit of spicing up. Maybe a little tongue-in-cheek with the actors adlibbing with ADR.
Scrozzle interrupts the fuzzy trip down memory lane with a new Robotron made from what I suppose was a leftover code of the Evox virus. Well, I say “new” but Burnertron is actually adapted from Mission 2 of Go Busters where the team had its first ground battle as a trio. The episode even has Nate and Steel go off to face Scrozzle off-screen from the Sentai footage in order to even things out.
I honestly love it when Power Rangers isn’t afraid to mix up the order of the Sentai episodes they’re adapting in order to tell its own story. Mind you, the purple flames here were an obvious CGI edit made for the FCC... which I don’t get. It’s still hot, flesh-searing fire so what difference does it make to make it a whole other color. Yeesh, Peter Griffin really was right about the friggin’ FCC...
Meanwhile, the Beetle Brothers finds themselves battling Scrozzle and his deadly... Christmas Ornament beam. Clearly he left most of his best tech back in the Cyber Dimension but whatever works works as Devon and Zoey find themselves being hung on a Christmas tree. So... what was Scrozzle going to do with that tree? Celebrate Christmas with Tronics? Burn it with the Rangers?
Steel tries to figure out the Christmas tree laser beam (only in Power Rangers) but ends up putting Ravi on the tree and just as a Gigadrone’s incoming. The Rangers encourage the Beast Bots by reminding them of how they helped them out in the field. Mind you, these were usually one-off moments that weren’t even in their own episodes. Still, Smash facing Turbotron was cool regardless.
That said, the Beast Bots do get their time to shine when they actually interface with the restored Zords (I’m guessing Nate and Steel’s are still being rebuilt) and pilot them all on their own. First, I was just smiling over how they removed the shots of the Go Busters fairly well (some iffy video editing aside) so the Beast Bots could shine, not too unlike how Arcanon got the Dino Charge Zords.
Second, I like that the final Zord battle of the season doesn’t involve the Megazord but the individual components doing their part like Smash evacuating a whole road like in Lightspeed Rescue or Jax dousing the not purple flames. Cruise even pulls off the finisher without the Cheetah X Blaster. I’m not sure how but I’m guessing there’s an alternative means of engaging the final blow. :P
Scrozzle even got in on the action by piloting the Gigadrones, something I hope that Season 2 utilizes more. It seems that Cruise finishes him off but we all know that when you never find the body, they always come back one way or another. I suppose its to make Season 1 a bit more self-contained, Mayor Daniels aside. Though a cliffhanger of him working on Robo-Blaze would been fairly darn cool.
Steel restores the Rangers in the nick of time as Santa Claus pops in to give the Beast Bots a personal trip to the North Pole, Steel’s favorite as it happens. I don’t think I will ever get over how Power Rangers has Santa Claus as a part of its canon. Mind you, I feel like they could bring in some of the supporting cast like Commander Shaw being eager to see Chris Kringle despite her sternness.
Beast Morphers was certainly a delight from how it adapted Go-Busters despite it being a few years back and pulled off a very creative adaptation. I might stan Ninja Steel but I’ll also admit that I could’ve done more in terms of story and character arcs. I enjoyed the Ninja Rangers and even plenty of the individual episodes along with their silliness. I’ll certain stick up for Victor and Monty too.
All the same, Beast Morphers had each episode largely build off what had been previously established. Steel himself would be the culmination of the first eight episode’s Cybergate arc. The Beast Power Up mode would lead to Vargoyle’s debut and then Evox’s ultimate endgame where the Cybergate returns for the Rangers to utilize. All while their episodic structure is well maintained overall. :)
Next season, old friends and foes alike return for one doozy of an adventure...

Week of Toku Ladies - Why I Love Her
We’ve had evil ladies who are Rangers before, yes, but Roxy is still very much something new. She’s the first proper Evil Lady Ranger, Her Powers from the exact same source as Zoey.
Furthermore, she’s capable, gorgeous, and badass, and her plans always work out better than Blaze’s. I’d argue that she’s the best villain of the season, actually.
