Going with the fic I started writing for the Femslash bang before I flaked out. (More or less Breathe the Fire verse)(Or for the rest of you, canon divergence where all of Azazelâs special children have a guardian angel. And in the fic, Anna falls earlier and one of the other guardian angels for the special kids finds her and gets her memories and eventually her grace back, blah blah blah)
How did they they meet? Anna was Avaâs guardian angel and stopped her from falling prey to Azazel/getting killed by JakeWho developed romantic feelings first? Anna did. Once she got her angel memories back, her mind was filled with anything and everything she would need to know about Ava that could help her protect her, and it was so hard for to not fall for her. Ava, meanwhile, doesnât really know this weirdo redhead, and is a little preoccupied with other things for a while. (Like the fact that she was a part of a demonâs evil master plan, or the fact that her fiance got slaughtered)Who is their biggest âshipper?â ANDREW FUCKING GALLAGHER.When did they have their first kiss and under what circumstances? Once the whole special children thing calmed down. Roughly somewhere between AHBL part 2 and The Magnificent Seven.Who confessed their feelings first? Ava did. Anna had them for a while before either of them said anything, but she didnât want to put that kind of pressure on Ava, so she kept them close to her chest. What was their first official date? It was a double date to Medieval Times with Andy and Jake. (Andy and Jake didnât last too long as a couple though. They like each other well enough, but decided theyâd be better off as friends and decided to expand their dating pool outside of the psychic kids.)How do they feel about double dates/group dates? They donât mind them, depending on who the other couple(s) is/are. Ava likes staying connected with her fellow psychic kids, so thatâs sometimes how they do it, and they all switch off choosing what to do.What do they do in their down time? They run and operate a little paranormal news website! Anna writes some fab articles and Avaâs actually a wiz with web design. What was the first meeting of parents as an official couple like? Richard and Amy Milton were a little shocked, being the good upstanding (and totally not dead) Christians that they are, but they love their daughter more than they love the annoyingly common assumption that the bible doesnât want you to gay, and it turns out they totally love Ava. Avaâs parents are a little less accepting, though thereâs no doubt in Avaâs mind that it has something to do with how much they loved Brady. What was their first fight over and how did they get past it? Avaâs use of her powers. They faded after Azazelâs death, sure, but they were still there, to an extent. And one day, they were attacked by a demon and Ava brain whammied him. It didnât fully do the job, but it did weaken him. More than that though, it wiped Ava out. Anna finished the guy off no problem with a weapon she got from Balthazar, then took Ava home, and was visibly upset once Ava fully came to. Things sort of spiraled into a fight, and Ava said something along the lines of âYou donât always have to protect me, I can protect myselfâ to which Anna replied that yeah, she kind of does have to protect her, seeing as sheâs literally her guardian angel. Ava didnât quite appreciate that being point out. The fight fizzled though and Ava admitted that using her powers might not have been the best idea, and had Anna not had that weapon, they would have been screwed. Anna admits that she can be a bit over protective.Which one is more easily made jealous? Avaâs got a wicked jealous streak, tbh. What is their favourite thing to get to eat? Chocolate cake. And if thereâs like, strawberries or raspberries with it, they just die.Whoâs the cuddly one? What their favourite cuddling position? Neither of them are particularly cuddly, but Anna has her moments where she sort of needs the contact. She still remembers all of her time as a human, but then she also has the angel memories, and eventually the grace, and she sometimes feels really out of place because of it, like she doesnât belong among either. Cuddling with Ava helps ground her. Reminds her that, angel or human, sheâs loved, and she belongs with Ava, beyond all else. Are they hand holders? Yes. Definitely. In part because Ava thinks about Lily and how she couldnât touch her girlfriend without killing her, and thinks about how much she would hate not being able to touch Anna, so she does every chance she gets. How long do they wait before sleeping together for the first time? Whatâs the circumstances? They take things a little slow. It takes a while for Ava to get over Brady, even while she has budding feelings for Anna. But Andy calls them up one night, totally stoned, and says something surprisingly poignant that has them both thinking that, well, life is short (though maybe not for Anna anymore oops) and Ava tells herself that moving on doesnât mean she loved her fiance any less.Who tops? Theyâre switchy. Sometimes they flip a coin.Whatâs the worst fight theyâve ever gotten into? It had to do with Anna talking about how she should help with the whole subverting the apocalypse thing. Ava insisted sheâd done her duty already and that Sam and Dean could handle it. It wasnât pretty.Who does the shopping and the cooking? They both shop. Ava does most of the cooking, and Anna takes care of a lot of the baking.Which one is more organized and prone to tidiness? Ava likes to clean sometimes. It helps her, when sheâs feeling stressed, to clean things. Anna just sort of uses her angel mojo to clean up most of the time.Who proposes? Ava. Three times. Then Anna does it once.Do they have joint Bachelor/Bachelorette parties or separate? Joint. They have the same friends, and would rather everyone just celebrate rather than two separate events.Who is the best man/maid of honour? Any other groomsmen or bridesmaids?Jake is Avaâs, and Anna convinces Cas to be hers. Andy officiates.Big Ceremony or Small? Small.Do they have a honeymoon? If so, where? They go to Hawaii and deeply consider never leaving.Do they have children? How many? They do not. But they are awesome aunties to everyone elseâs children, and have, like, four pets, who they call their babies.

Anna/Ava AU
âł created for spnfemslashbingo; fake married square
Ava Wilson doesnât lead the most normal life. She doesnât go on dates, she doesnât pay rent, she doesnât go out for drinks with friends. Her life is pretty much work work work. Thatâs not that unusual though, right? Plenty of people are married to their jobs. But unlike Ava, most of them arenât professional hitmen.
Well, not hitman, per se, more like hitwoman. Hitperson? Whatever. Semantics. The point is, she kills people for a living. People pay her to kill other people. And sheâs damn good at it too. Generally she can get in, kill people, and then get out and thatâs it, but there are other times where her approach needs to be a little more involved.
Thatâs where Anna comes in. Ava met her working a case in the Balkans. Back then, Anna was working under some curly headed do gooder with a chip on his shoulder who wanted to take out some big insurance company and hired a bunch or criminals to help him do his dirty work. Their case led them to the same hotel where Ava was sent to take out a Russian arms dealer named Ari Tasarov.
Tasarov had two very well known weaknesses: women and alcohol. So Avaâs plan was a simple one. She was going to pick him up at the bar, get him to invite her up to his room, and take him out there. The only problem was he met some girl at customs and instead of heading straight to the hotel, he and his convoy took a detour so he could go back to her place. Ava decided to have a drink at the bar anyway. Tasarov would likely not be back until late, if he showed up that day at all, so she had some time to kill.
While sitting at the bar, Ava was accosted by some greasy haired, thin mustached prick. She wanted to avoid making a scene at the hotel before she even had the chance to take out Tasarov, so she avoided throttling the guy. It was a close call though. The guy started getting a little handsy, and Ava was about to pull her gun on him when she felt a hand - not mustache guyâs - settle between her shoulder blades.
âHey, honey, sorry Iâm late.â Ava looked up to see a sweetly smiling redhead and smiled back at her.
âNo worries. You know Iâm a patient gal.â
It shocked the guy enough to get his hand off of Avaâs thigh, but it also brought a sickening smile to his face. âI did not know you had girlfriend,â he said in heavily accented English.
âActually,â the redhead told him, raising her left hand to show a tasteful diamond ring. âFiancee.â The sweet smile turned poisonous as she looked at him and said something to him in a language that Ava didnât speak. Whatever it was she said worked though because mustache looked terrified before grabbing his drink and getting the hell out of dodge.
The redhead settled into the seat next to Ava, that same sweet smile back on her face. âSorry about that. Looked like that guy was making you uncomfortable.â
âThatâs one way to put it...â
âIâm Anna,â she declared, holding her hand out.
Ava took her hand and couldnât help but smile back. âAva.â
--
That was only the first of many times where Anna posed as Avaâs fiancee (or girlfriend or wife), sometimes because they happen to run into each other while working jobs, sometimes because one of them asks the other. Eventually Ava came to expect to run into Anna while on the job. Not on every job, but it comes as no surprise when she does see her.
What does surprise her though is when she starts wishing they werenât just playing pretend. She knows she canât have a real, normal relationship in her line of work. But Anna knows the game. She knows the risks, she knows what Ava has to do to get the job done. Maybe the two of them really could make it work.
Pairing: Anna/Ava
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3286
Warnings: mentions of violence, post-bombing apocalypsey type drama
Ava and Anna have been together for a while. They live together, they spend most of their time together, and Annaâs family has come to accept Ava as one of their own. Ava wants to spend the rest of her life with Anna, and canât see any reason why she shouldnât propose.
Anna doesnât seem to see things the same way. Â The same night that Ava is going to propose, Anna says they need to talk, and tells Ava that she thinks they should take some time apart and really think about whether this relationship is something they both want. When Anna doesnât give a specific reason for why she wants this, it sparks a fight. Ava wonders if maybe Annaâs been seeing someone else. Anna tells her she wouldnât dream of it, but that only makes matters worse.
The fight dwindles as they lose their fire, and eventually they end up going to bed, Anna sleeping on the couch. In the morning, Anna has to leave for work - sheâs going into the local mines to do research for an article - and tries to get Ava to discuss their relationship with her, but has no luck. When the bombs come that afternoon, Ava wishes sheâd given her a chance to talk.
Anna heads to the Deveraux Mine and meets up with Dean, an old friend of hers, who happens to be the foreman at the mine, and he introduces her to some of the men that will be going down with them. She has a digital recorder with her, which she uses to record the answers they give to the questions she asks them, and sheâs grateful for it. Her mind keeps wandering back to Ava laying quiet and despondent in bed earlier in the morning. She never meant to hurt Ava. Things have just been...different, since Avaâs father died. Ava likes to pretend like nothingâs wrong, but Anna has definitely noticed a change in her.
After Deanâs made the rounds introducing her to everyone, he goes over the safety precautions with Anna: required safety equipment, what not to do in the mine, what to do and where to go in case of a cave in. She makes note of it all, both for her own safety, and for her article.
--
Avaâs not sure how long itâs been since Anna left, but eventually she gets out of bed. She needs to do something. Take her mind off of last night. Her plan is to go out and see Jake and Andy, tell them the proposal didnât happen, and then maybe get day drunk and maybe watch something extra gory. Maybe watching people die on screen will make her feel better.
She only makes it as far as the lobby when it happens. Thereâs loud noises and a bright flash of light, and she moves toward the window to get a better look. As she watches the city fall, all she can think of is Anna. How far out of the city did she say the mine was? Is she okay? Is she safe?
Suddenly thereâs a hand on her shoulder and someoneâs turning her around and pulling her away from the window, toward the stairs to the basement. She thinks she hears a âCome on, we have to go,â but her mind is still elsewhere, and regardless, itâs hard to hear anything above the people screaming and stampeding to some vestige of safety.
Once they reach the basement, she sees someone heave open a heavy metal door, and the person pulling her along leads her down another set of stairs, metal and rusted, and sheâs a little more than halfway down when she hears the door clang shut, and a sound like gears turning before a lock settles into place. Itâs the sound of the lock that brings her fully back to her senses. She gets to the bottom of the steps, pulling her hand free, and turns to look back up at the door, but all she can see is darkness now that the door is closed.
âSomeone turn on the lights,â she hears someone say from a few feet behind her. A few lights shine in the darkness, illuminating a few spots in the room as people pull out their cell phones. A few moments later, the lights flicker on. Once her eyes adjust, she sees a few faces she recognizes: Kim and her daughter from upstairs, Rufus, the buildingâs super, and Ephraim, the guy from down the hall, who sheâs reasonably certain is the one that pulled her down here with him.
Thereâs been a muffled banging against the door this whole time, but no oneâs said anything until Benny - the short order cook from the eighth floor who Ava only recognizes because Anna will stop to chat with him if they run into each other in the lobby or the elevator - storms over to Rufus, asking âWhy the hell would you leave all those people out there?â
Benny is barely through asking the question when Rufus says sternly âBecause I donât even want you people in here. Iâve only got so much food and water down here, and in case you havenât noticed, it doesnât look like weâll be able to make a grocery run any time soon.â
While Rufus and her fellow tenants fight, Ava has a look around; she has no interest in quarreling with the people sheâll be stuck down here with for God knows how long. They seem to be in a bunker under the basement of the building. The basement itself is underground, and theyâre below that, so there are no windows. The walls, which, based on the rest of the building, should be concrete, are steel, with lines of rivets every few feet to affix them to the concrete behind. Thereâs a hallway at the far end of the large room theyâre in, that is currently unlit. The room is furnished with a couple of old couches, rickety tables, and even a pool table, most of which she thinks were re-purposed after tenants decided to get rid of them.
Either Rufus decided he needed a man cave outside of the apartment he already has in the building, or heâs even more paranoid than she thought, and this was all prepared in case something like this were to happen.
--
Dean shows Anna to the mineâs safe room - a pre-built structure meant to protect miners and provide them with breathable air in the event of an emergency - and further explains emergency procedures, while explaining that, in all his years working at the mine, thereâs yet to be an incident where the safe room is needed. Thatâs when they hear the explosion.
Theyâre not entirely sure what made the sound - itâs dulled and obscured because of how far underground they are - but whatever it is, it causes the lights to flicker and dust to fall from the ceiling of the mine. They step out of the safe room to investigate, and see miners running toward them, a thick cloud of dust and smoke following them, and Anna and Dean think it best to head back inside the safe room before they get bowled over.
The last of the miners shuts the door behind him, and Anna waits until the lot of them have seemed to catch their breath before asking âWhat was that?â
âSomething went off above ground,â one of the miners supplies.
Someone else speaks up. âA bomb. Could have been the Koreans.â
Another person scoffs. âThe Koreans? Seriously? It could have just been a gas main explosion.â
The comments turn into chatter, then full on bickering, until Dean raises his voice. âQuiet! All of you, quiet.â A hush falls over them. âWhatever happened, it seems like it might have caused a cave in. Anybody notice if the entrance is blocked?â
The first miner nods. âThe tunnel collapsed. Thereâs no way we can get out the way we came in.â
Dean doesnât look too pleased about that answer. âOkay, listen up,â he tells them, and Anna canât help but think sheâs glad that, of anyone, sheâs glad to be down here with him. Heâs still cool and collected, even in the face of something like this. âUntil help comes, weâre trapped down here. Weâve got food, water, and oxygen enough to last us a little while, but weâre going to have to ration things and take it easy. Thereâs no way of knowing how long weâll be down here for.â
Everyone seems more calm, though still afraid, when Deanâs done telling them what to do. Unfortunately, thereâs not much they can do, stuck in here, other than wait and talk. Dean and Anna fill the silence, sitting in the corner of the safe room, speaking softly about what happened between Anna and Ava, and about the first thing each of them wants to do once they get back topside.
--
The hours tick on and thoughts of Anna constantly run through Avaâs mind. Sheâs kept to herself, splitting her time between reading from a book about the Kennedy assassination she found laying around, and napping on some old flimsy beat up mattress thatâs been sitting in the corner for God knows how long. Sheâs pretty sure she heard Benny say earlier, when Kimâs daughter had asked, that itâd been just short of twenty four hours, and that was a few chapters and one REM cycle ago.
Itâs been about a day. A full day without Anna. Without knowing whether sheâs alive or dead. This is the longest theyâve gone without some form of communication in ages, and Ava feels a real, physical ache at the absence.
Sheâs going over the last words she said to Anna in her head when someone slides a box over to her with their foot.Â
âThis is yours.â Itâs Ephraim, and she cranes her head back, looking at him upside down. âWe rationed all the food we could find while you were asleep. Wanted to wait until you were awake to bring it over to you.â
Ava turns over onto her stomach and props herself up on her elbows as he sits down near the mattress, and she mutters a quiet âThanks.â
âNo problem.â He offers her a small smile, and she tries to return it, but her attempt falls flat. When she says nothing in response, he clears his throat - a nervous habit of his that sheâs picked up on during their occasional conversations. âIf you want to talk about...About whatâs going on...Just let me know.â
âThere was a giant explosion and now the city is in ruins. Unless you know why it happened, thereâs not much to talk about.â
âI didnât mean about the bombs.â He gets back to his feet and turns to start walking away again.
Then Anna. What else could he mean? âWait...â She calls out to his retreating back.
He turns to face her again. âYeah?â
âWhat about...What about your boyfriend?â As long as sheâs known Ephraim, heâs been living with his boyfriend, Chuck. Heâs a short, neurotic bearded guy who occasionally talks Vonnegut or swap recipes with Anna. Theyâre almost nauseatingly cute sometimes, and Ava doubts that Ephraim would have left Chuck up there if he had a choice.
A soft, bittersweet smile crosses Ephraimâs face. âHeâs on a trip. Left two days ago.â
âBut he could be...â Ava trails off, not wanting to say the words because she fears the same thing about Anna. âWe donât know if this is localized, or if other places have been hit too.â
âHeâs okay.â
âBut how do you know?â
âI just do,â he says simply. âIf he were hurt or worse...I would know. I would feel it. I know in my heart that heâs okay.â
Ava doesnât respond, but she thinks to herself it must be nice to be so sure.
--
The next day (The day after? Ava isnât too sure about the time, and has no interest in asking anyone else) Ava finds herself sitting on the stairs, away from the rest of the group. She had been reading some Russian novel that she knows Anna likes, but lost interest part way through, and has been spending her time occasionally eaves dropping on what she can hear of other peopleâs conversations, but mostly thinking about Anna. They have no way of contacting each other, no way of knowing if the other is alive, and Ava doesnât know how much more she can take.
She looks up when she hears a soft and cautious âHeyâ from in front of her, and sees Ephraim, looking about as exhausted as she feels.
âHey. Have you been getting much sleep?â
âNo,â he says, shaking his head. âNot really. Itâs been a long time since Iâve slept without another person next to me.â
âMe too,â she responds. âThough by the looks of it, Iâve done a better job of coping with that than you have.â
Ephraim chuckles softly. âYeah, looks like. So hey, Bennyâs got a card game going. Even if you're not into cards, itâs worth it to listen to him and Rufus bicker.â
âThanks, but I think Iâm good here.â She tries to give him a convincing smile but, just like before, it misses the mark. She always thought she was a decent liar. The past few days have been proving that might not be so accurate.
Ephraim thinks for a few moments before he finally speaks. âI know itâs hard, I know it hurts, but you have to have faith that sheâs still...That sheâs alright.â
Avaâs expression turns cold. âHave faith? What has faith ever done for anyone? Faith didnât do me any good growing up with an evil son of a bitch for a father. Faith didnât do me any good when my mother was slowly dying. Or when I decided I wanted to settle down and have a life with Anna. All that Iâve ever been able to rely on is her. I donât...â Her anger wanes like a smothered fire and her hands are shaking. âI donât know what Iâm going to do if sheâs...â
When Ava doesnât continue, Ephraim speaks up, his voice gentle but sure. âWhen we get out of here, Iâll help you find her.â
If we get out, Ava thinks.
--
Anna and Dean donât talk much - wanting to conserve as much oxygen as they can - but they do talk a little. They err away from discussion about what it is theyâre facing, and talk about lighter subjects. Subjects like the plans they had for this week that are clearly cancelled now, or like Deanâs budding crush on a guy who happens to live in Annaâs building, or about whether Anna thinks she has enough material for a decent article. (That last bit gets a chuckle out of Anna when Dean asks.)
It been about three days, as far as Dean and Anna can tell, and the miners are starting to get a little restless. Not knowing what happened, not knowing when help will come...Itâs not making things any easier on any of them. The men seem dead set on believing that what happened wasnât a normal cave in. That something happened topside, and that help isnât coming. If someone doesnât act quickly, theyâll incite a panic, and even if that doesnât happen, theyâre going to run out of food, water, and oxygen eventually.
Thereâs not much in the way of privacy in the safe room, but at about mid morning on the fourth day, Dean pulls Anna aside, making sure none of the miners are listening before whispering to her, telling her that along with the provisions and oxygen tanks, the safe room is equipped with protective suits, designed to help them breathe and protect them against the elements. He says itâs not exactly standard procedure, but Frank, the guy that owns the mine, is a paranoid bastard and thought they might come in handy some day.
âWhy are you only mentioning this now?â She asks softly.
âBecause...Iâm starting to think maybe theyâre right. Maybe no oneâs coming.â
âYeah, maybe. But why are we whispering?â
Dean glances around at the others. âI wanted to tell you first. They seem a little hostile.â
Seeing as they canât very well sneak out unnoticed, Anna and Dean tell the miners about the suits. It causes a small uproar, but once again, Dean manages to quiet them all down, and continues telling them his plan. Thereâs only two suits: Dean will take one, and someone else is welcome to volunteer to go with him, then the two of them will make their way through the tunnels to see if thereâs a way out, see whatâs going on topside, and try to come back with help.
âIf thereâs any volunteers, nowâs the time to speak up.â To Annaâs surprise, Dean is met with silence. She figured that the men would jump at the chance to not be stuck down here, but now they all look nervous. Scared. But she understands. Thereâs no way of knowing whatâs up there, or what theyâll be met with upon leaving the safe room. At least if they stay there, theyâre guaranteed several more days of oxygen, food, and water. Leaving could mean any number of dangers.
When sheâs sure no one is going to speak up, Anna declares âIâll go.â
Deanâs face is a mixture of concern and pride, and she shrugs at him. âSomeone has to protect your ass.â
--
They get suited up, and after making sure everythingâs connected properly and that they have any other supplies they might need, they head out. Dean leads the way, more comfortable with navigating the mines, Anna pulling out a flare to light the way through the dark tunnels.
There are several forks and dead ends, and after a while, it seems like theyâll be stuck down here forever, taking turn after turn with no end in sight.
Annaâs growing more and more discouraged with each dead end, but after a while of searching, she hears something. âWhat was that?â
Dean glances back at her, and based on the look on his face, he has no idea what sheâs talking about.
âI heard something...â She mutters. Thatâs when she hears it again. A faint whistling, like a brisk wind. The suit muffles the sound, but sheâs sure she hears it, and heads off in that direction, Dean following after.
âDean!â She calls out behind her once she finds the source of the sound. âI think I found a way out!â
Dean rushes over to see what she found. In front of them, several feet up, thereâs a light, shining through an opening in the wall of the mine. In front of it, there lays a large pile of dirt, rocks, and other debris. As they get a closer look, they see that some of that debris appears to be human remains.
They exchange a cautious, concerned look before Anna puts down the flare and steps toward the debris pile. Dean reaches out, grabbing her arm.
"Wait, Anna...It doesnât seem safe.â
âNo matter what, weâre not safe. But Iâd rather risk death out there and have a chance to find Ava, and find someone to help those men down there, than starve to death in that room.â
Without another word, she continues her ascent, Dean following behind her.
--
Back in Rufusâ bunker, Ava feels an inexplicable rush of hope, and thinks about what Ephraim told her. I know in my heart heâs okay. Maybe there was something to that. Maybe thatâs what sheâs feeling right now.
