Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town.
“Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.

Found a rather bizarre Disney fan video. It's a hunchback of Notre dame AMV... that has real life footage of the actual Notre Dame cathedral burning down, alongside other footage of the cathedral and news footage. And it's set to Coldplay's fix you
celene did it to appease the nobles so they didn't think she was too soft on the elves, also the briala and gaspard stuff (though not many, including lanaya, would know anything about those details). but maybe there's some that didn't particularly agree with it? who see it as an "outburst" and not very strategic or “playing the game” and a scary display. tho that might not be the majority.
it wasn't just elves who died, but humans who also lived in the poor district of halamshiral. but elves were the majority since elves are the biggest population in the city and outnumber the human nobility. but still, it wasn’t only elves. also nothing to say that dwarves and qunari could also live in halamshiral.
celene mentions that a few thousands died which is a lot of lives. halamshiral has a large elf population, but losing so many hurt them. they also lost long-standing buildings, homes, streets, etc. some of the streets and buildings are reminiscent of the dales, so history is also lost.
it will take years for rebuilding to happen. (i think lanaya uses inquisition resources to help since its only been a few years and unlikely anything major has happened at that point, also after it happens she stays for as long as she can to help and is very close to relocating to orlais indefinitely - timeline is wonky and cuts it close but oh well)
a lot of surviving families are displaced -- rebuilding takes time and money and i don't imagine the human nobles of halamshiral to extend a hand. the dalish clans and alienages in orlais take in survivors, and alienages across thedas send aid as well (val royeaux, ferelden, etc). the halamshiral elvhen population dwindles even more because a lot of them have to relocate.
this MIGHT be wishful thinking (idc tbh) but i do think alienages help each other when/if they can. alienages arrange marriages between clans (dao in the city elf origin) so there's definitely communication there. i think they also help each other out and not just regarding trade and marriage.
immediately after the fire (once things started to calm down), shacks and temporary tents were put up as makeshift homes and to tend to the injured. the one park (see the link below that goes to a fan-made map) was set up as a meeting centre for anyone looking for loved ones.
while many die from the fire itself, a great many die from injuries (mass panic causing trampling and similar injuries), buildings collapsing, smoke inhalation.
halamshiral's streets are very narrow and winding, so it would be easier for fires to spread from house to house.
there absolutely was a working communal firefighting collective among the elves and people who didn't reside in the high quarter. obviously they weren't active at the time for celene purposes.
ideas inspired by this halamshiral map and their post about halamshiral canon/headcanons.
