AuDHD and Social Disability rant.
First of all, it sucks that when I say "social disability" I have to clarify that I don't mean a government program. A major reason why I spent most of my life not knowing I was AuDHDistic was because for me it is a social disability, not a learning disability. I don't have anxiety like most people, I'm a woman with AuDHD who was born deaf and I was about 1 or 2 when it was fixed, so it's probably why all my life I never had the brain wiring to initiate and maintain a conversation. The reason I'm able to work in retail is because Q&A conversations are not hard for me.
I was a girl born in 1986, so the possibility of autism or inattentive ADHD never came up despite spending most of my childhood seeing a therapist. Back then, you had to check off all the boxes for a diagnosis.
There needs to be representation of people who are not the romantic type but still want to have a relationship for the intimacy.
There needs to be representation of people who wanted a relationship, but it wasn't meant to be AND they are not a villain. Too many people see being a single adult as a sign that they are a bad person. That ignores the reality that so many bad people do have intimate relationships, because it's actually about social ability and social opportunity, not morality.
In the autistic community, there are so many people who say "Being a person with autism wasn't a barrier to me." Good for you, not everyone with autism has that experience.
When people think of "lonely adult" they think of an incel or a woman who is single all the time but is somehow still able to have sex. Being a woman does not mean you have easy access to sex. Even if I did miraculously have the ability to maintain a conversation, I would still have to think about safety.
I really wish sex work was decriminalized and there were unionized or worker co-op brothels with male sex workers for heterosexual women. That would be 1000% safer than using a dating website or a bar for one night sex.
