August 7, 1970 — Anniversary of the Marin California Courthouse Slave Rebellion

“Freeze!” shouted 17-year-old Jonathan Jackson, “We’re taking over” — as he tossed guns to McClain, Christmas, and Magee. With courage and calm they ushered their hostages to a waiting van, planning to go to a radio station to broadcast the racist atrocities against Black prisoners, and demand the immediate release of the Soledad Brothers — George Jackson, Fleeta Drumgo and John Clutchette.
What Jackson failed to anticipate was the State’s willingness to sacrifice one of its judges and the lives of everyone else to stop that escape. As he tried to leave the parking lot, the San Quentin guards arrived and opened fire, leaving Jackson, Christmas, McClain, and Judge Harold Haley dead, State prosecutor Gary Thomas and Ruchell Magee seriously wounded. One juror sustained a minor injury.
Although critically wounded making it impossible for him to have killed anyone, Magee was charged with everything they could throw at him. In court to testify for McClain that fateful day, Magee had seized the hour spontaneously.

Charlotte/Lottie:
It always bothered me how Lottie got so much praise and, honestly, more attention than the literal Black protagonist of this movie. It doesn't help that Lottie is very much a white savior who seems to be the only friend Tiana goes to, despite their clear economic differences due to their race. We just don't need that kind of storyline in a movie about a Black woman.
In my ideal rewrite, Lottie is of Creole descent. Her father is still the same white mayor who does not generally care about aiding the Black community, as in the movie. You can't tell me he ever gave a damn; his family definitely profited from the plantations.
Due to being raised by the richest white man in the city, Lottie buys into appealing to her whiteness and wealth for status rights. While she is friends with Tiana, she's, for the most part, ignorant of the economic disparities between Black and White people in New Orleans. This eventually sparks a fight between them, causing a rift in their friendship before Tiana goes missing. Lottie has to basically learn to denounce her whiteness, and idk, maybe she goes broke by the end of the movie helping out Tiana.
I have more to expand on her role in the story, but I'll have to write out that rewrite another time.
Cheetah Girls:
Did you know that the Cheetah Girls in the original book series were a group of 5 Black girls? Well, apparently that was one too many for Disney, so they decided to whitewash half of the group 😡. They also got rid of a twin! While I understand finding Black girl twins who can both act and sing at a certain age would be challenging, it still resulted in getting rid of a darkskinned Black girl.
Recently, I found out they are making another Cheetah Girls group, and somehow, they whitewashed them even further! Now there's only one Black girl in the group! WE CAN'T EVEN HAVE 2??!!!
I hate the argument that they did this to add diversity, because the girls were already diverse. Funny how everyone can moan and cry the moment one person in a friend group gets reimagined as Black, but it's crickets when they deliberately whitewash the majority of a Black friend group. Math ain't mathing. So nah Disney,
Give us back our Black teen idol group!

How would it feel, do you think, to have someone tell you that they're scared of you ... even though you've done nothing more than exist in the same online space? Wouldn't that be distressing and alienating?
Your claim in lacking judgement is completely undermined by your use of the word "scared". That's a word we use in reference to people who are dangerous. People who have demonstrated themselves to be predatory, cruel, threatening, harmful. It is not a word we should wield against the many aromantics who have done nothing but be.
"Scared" does, though, reflect the pervasive stereotype that allosexual or not-asexual aros are predatory and rapacious because we are not alloromantic. (In other words: only alloromanticism can make our sexuality safe, tame, acceptable.) This stereotype has been used to denigrate and silence us outside of and within a-spec spaces--in online communities, fiction, face-to-face interactions with others.
My sexual attraction doesn't make me dangerous, predatory or deserving of your fear. It just makes me a different kind of aromantic who deserves the same inclusion, and the same baseline presumption of harmlessness and decency, as any other aro.
OP, you need to examine why "scared" describes your feelings about people who are aro in a different way from you. Learn more about aromanticism and allosexual aromanticism, including the way sex negativity intersects with aromantic antagonism. Engage with us as aros who have different, but equally valuable, perspectives.
I hope this is a thoughtless "foot in mouth" situation from a community newcomer rather than rampant allosexual aro antagonism--but for the sake of every allosexual aro scrolling the tags, it cannot stand uncorrected.
