LovelyOcean: A Journey of Authenticity, Growth, and Unstoppable Vibes with âWednesdayâ
LovelyOcean isnât just a name; itâs a reflection of artistry thatâs as vast and dynamic as the sea. With her chill, melodic style and storytelling rooted in real-life experiences, this rising star is carving her own lane in hip-hop. Her latest track and video, âWednesday,â is an homage to friendship, youthful memories, and the joy of living in the moment. Through her authenticity and lyrical finesse, LovelyOcean is capturing hearts and proving thereâs room for individuality in rap.
The Inspiration Behind âWednesdayâ
LovelyOceanâs new single, âWednesday,â isnât just a song; itâs a time capsule of cherished memories. âA few years ago, one of my friends told me I should write a song about our friend group,â she shares. âBack in high school, every Wednesday after school, weâd get together and smoke. The song is based on a real experience.â
The collaboration with ThatHippyDee, featured on the track, was serendipitous. âIn 2021, I posted a clip of me rapping the first verse on Instagram. Later that day, Dee hit me up and said, âWhen I heard what you posted, I immediately started writing to it.â He sent it over, and I was blown away. It was perfect timing because Iâd been struggling with the second verse.â
This organic connection brought âWednesdayâ full circle. âI met Dee in high school, so it went along with the theme,â she adds.
A Name Full of Meaning
The title âWednesdayâ holds layers of significance for LovelyOcean. âIt was the day my friends and I looked forward toâit was the one day we got out of school early,â she says. Beyond that, the release date added a personal touch. âI was born on a Wednesday, and when I released the song in 2022, it came out on my birthday, which was also a Wednesday. Itâs a chill story about being young, being with friends, and not worrying about everything else going on around us. Honestly, itâs a nice song to smoke to.â
Crafting the Vibe
The creative process for âWednesdayâ was both rewarding and challenging. âThe first verse and hook came together quickly, but the second verse was tough,â LovelyOcean recalls. âAfter I set it aside, Deeâs verse brought it all together. The process was collaborative yet smooth.â
The music video, directed by Ari (@sunflowerarii) and shot by Daniel (@danielsun.media), added a visual layer to the narrative. âWe were going for an industrial vibe, and we were lucky to shoot in the art district where my boyfriend works,â she shares. âOne of the standout moments was seeing how they layered multiple shots of me into one frameâit was like there were two of me!â
The Response to âWednesdayâ
The reception to âWednesdayâ has been overwhelmingly positive, reigniting interest in the track released back in 2022. âThe video put the song back into peopleâs rotation,â LovelyOcean notes. âPeople are impressed with the storytelling and visuals. Itâs also gained popularity in unexpected places like Brazil and the Netherlands, thanks to ads and marketing efforts.â
The Artistic Evolution
LovelyOceanâs journey into music began with poetry and storytelling. âI started writing poems and stories in elementary school, but I didnât write real songs until 2017,â she explains. Influenced by the records her dad played, CDs her sister spun, and music videos she watched with her cousin, she always knew she wanted to perform.
Her soundâchill, melodic, and lyricalâis rooted in 90s hip-hop influences like Rapsody, Black Moon, and Queen Latifah. âI put a lot of thought into beat selection and lyrics to create vivid imagery for listeners,â she says. Her authenticity is what sets her apart. âI donât have a typical California or LA sound, but Iâm just being myself. The authenticity shines through every time.â
Overcoming Challenges
As an independent artist, LovelyOcean has faced her share of obstacles. âThe biggest challenges are financing everything and not comparing myself to others,â she admits. âI work full-time and have adult bills, so I use what I can for ads and promo. Sometimes I think, âMaybe if I sounded like them, Iâd be more popular,â but I canât sacrifice my sound to fit the status quo.â
Her determination is unwavering: âThereâs room for all women in rap to succeed. Iâm sticking to my authenticity.â
The Rewards of Staying True
For LovelyOcean, one of the most rewarding moments came this year at a performance. âAn MC recognized me from another show and introduced me to the crowd, saying I was dope. That recognition meant so much and made the crowd tune in.â
Whatâs Next for LovelyOcean?
With âWednesdayâ gaining traction, LovelyOcean has already released her album, Better Than Ever, and is brainstorming her next project for 2025. âIâm focusing on marketing my current music and booking my first international performance,â she reveals.
Her dream collaboration? âVince Staples. Heâs an excellent storyteller and so authentically himself. I admire that.â
Advice for Aspiring Artists
To women breaking into the rap game, she offers sage advice: âBe yourself. Stop putting yourself in a box. Stand strong and be careful with who you trustâsome folks will use your kindness against you.â
For fans, LovelyOcean is just getting started. âYou can find me on every streaming platform as LovelyOcean, and my music videos are on YouTube. On Instagram, Iâm @lovelyoceanwaters, and on TikTok, Iâm @yo_lovelyocean.â
With her authenticity, dedication, and ever-evolving artistry, LovelyOcean is a force to be reckoned with in hip-hop. âThereâs only one me, and Iâm here to make waves.â
