wow look guys i'm rambling about my first college au
Me and Lizzie are writing a Suits college AU so I thought I'd post the dumb synopsis that I made up here so y'all could tell me if you'd like to read it once we get cracking on this thing.
(also in re: Harvey's brother's name, we had this idea that his mother was Irish, and the name Lachlann is Gaelic and also really pretty so yeah there's that)
So yeah Mike Ross is basically a prodigy (he's sixteen) and is being sent to college. His grandmother's mind is slipping and she's moving into a home, so they've gotta figure out Mike's housing situation. Enter Harvey Specter, senior, who is an arrogant, brilliant law student headed to great heights, hindered only by the fact that his mother left his father when he was ten and his father died when he was eighteen, leaving him a college student with a high school aged brother, Lachlann Specter, to take care of. Money is tighter than he'd like. He has a spare room. Jessica Pearson, Dean of Student Affairs, engineers it so that Harvey's spare room is occupied by the special-circumstances-advanced-freshman. "You have a spare room, I have a spare freshman. The solution presents itself."
Plot begins as Mike, skittish and insistent that he needs nothing beyond a place to stay, that he doesn't need anyone, that he can take care of himself, and Harvey, cold uncaring egotistical asshole, start to get to know each other any maybe become tentative friends, at the same time as Mike's best and only friend Trevor gets deeper and deeper into the wrong crowd. Drugs, cheating, partying, all manner of shit. And then the further into it Trevor gets, the more backlash comes around to hit Mike. And the deeper this hole gets dug, the more unable to ignore it Harvey gets, and besides, he's moderately fond of this kid by now, and he's got a little brother, he can't just ignore the fact that someone who is pretty much alone and only barely a year older than Lachlann has been dragged into something really bad.
And then eventually it's Lach who points out to him the fact that their house's other occupant is suffering and something's happening to him, something bad, and he should help him, not out of obligation, but out of the fact that Mike is a good, good kid, and he doesn't deserve this kinda shit in his life.
So Harvey, reluctant as he is, does the one thing he told himself he wouldn't do when this kid first moved in. He gets involved.
