The rain, normally a soothing thing for Olivia, seemed to mask an underlying danger. She’d been putting all the eels she’d caught in the fridge for cooking later (hopefully she wouldn’t forget and use them all for maki rolls later when she was trying to save them for a new spicy eel dish) when, looking out the window, she saw something she didn’t expect to see. A bear on her farmland?
It wasn’t the strangest thing ever, not really. Still, it was the first time she’d seen one so close to her. Panic struck her, stiffening her back as she could only watch the creature’s meandering. Hopefully he wouldn’t try and abduct any of her chickens...they’d be inside the coop today, but still.
Maybe he was just hungry? Olivia opened the fridge once again, and grabbed a basketful of fish she’d caught yesterday. Maybe this wasn’t too smart -- what if he tried to come inside her house? -- but maybe, it might just work. Maybe he’d just take it and leave.
The farmer placed her offering on the front porch, and then proceeded to retreat to her bedroom.

It had been a few years since Bean had found his older brother-- or, rather, his older brother had found him. Bean didn’t recall much from before they met, but he did remember enough to know that the polar bear had taken a liking to him (and probably pitied him quite a bit, Bean thought-- He had been without parents, all alone with nowhere else to go!) and had essentially adopted him.
Now, he traveled with his partner, doing jobs on the side for money, and dragging him around to explore new areas when during their free time.
This particular journey led them to stumble upon an abandoned Egg Army base, the structure torn down in some areas and allowing easy access.
“C’mon, Bark!” Bean cheered, pulling on his scarf before running ahead and climbing over rubble. “There’s bound to be lots of stuff for us to steal here!” He looked behind him before turning back to the bear and pointing at an unseen object.
“Hey, I think that I found a SWATbot head! D’ya think that it’s hollowed out by now?”
“Bark the polar bear, if I’m not mistaken?” He had a look of curiosity in his eyes, but of what he didn’t make clear.
“I’ve heard of your dealings with the good doctor. Quite the powerhouse, aren’t you?”

Of course the humans come at night. Of course they are loud and obnoxious, despite the fact they were trying to sneak up on him. Of course they don’t notice him stalking them. And, of course, they go in a giant circle, disorienting themselves and sending Tank on a long, cold, boring trek through his own footprints. It’s pathetic, frankly, and he’s tired and miserable enough to entertain the idea of just howling and scaring them off.
But then they stop. There is whispering, pointing, shifting. Something is different. Something is wrong. Tank slinks closer, carefully stepping on overgrown roots to avoid crunching leaves and twigs. The leader of the group, gun hoisted over his shoulder, is pointing at the ground. Tracks. Small boot prints, unlike that of the GUN squad. Fresh as well. There is a new player on the field and they are close. It would be quite unfortunate for them to be shot before Tank can investigate....
The men in the back are targeted first, thick digits reaching out of the brush to grab their ankles, sweeping them off of their feet and dragging them, screaming and kicking, into the dark. Rapid gun fire follows, orders mixing with vicious growls, panic and fear palpable in the air. The fight goes from a cacophony of noise to abrupt silence in seconds. Tank takes a moment to come back to himself and find the tracks again among the bodies. Then he follows them, eclipsing them with his own massive paw prints, forgoing any attempt a subtlety or stealth.

...What the heck? What was that??? Well, it was a bear, obviously. But it acted...like a human, maybe? Sure stood like one. And wore clothes. From afar he'd thought someone had played a prank and put a hat and scarf on a regular old bear, and he'd come to try and help.
Clearly there was no help needed here. He didn't like the way he was being looked at.
"Uh...My apologies. I'd thought you were in need of assistance, but it appears I was mistaken. Um..."
He scratches at his neck some. Hopefully the bear understood.
"...Hi...?"

“...Uuuuh. No. I don’t mean the ice bein’ in my mouth is better than coffee I mean me bein’ out in it is better than coffee. At wakin’ me up.”
