AUman coining post
AUman (Alternative Universe huMAN) is an alterhuman term intended to describe the following experience/identity:
being a human from an alternative version of this worlds history
being a human from a world like this earth but with any significant difference that makes it not this earth e.g. a world where everything is the same but aliens walk amongst humans
being a human from a completely different version of this world, or entirely not this world e.g. being a human from Mars in a world where Mars is colonised.
Your specific universe is your AUtype.
An AUman is not;
A fictional human character from established fiction in this world, or any other - this would be a fictotype,
A factual human/'historical figure' from any time in this worlds history (even if your memories/noemata recalls alternative history) - this would be a facttype.
One can be an AUman and a human of this world. One can be an AUman and nonhuman in other ways. One can be an AUman and fictionkind or factkin.
[I'm terrible at flag and symbol design, so do whatever you will with that lol. I made this an official post because I saw at least one other person who had a similar experience to my own AUman identity]
los novios
So when I talk about being an 'AUman' I mean in a very literal sense, in another universe, another time, another life (one or all of these things, I don't know) I was a human.
Now, it's not fictionkin because it's not from any fictional world in this universe. Not factkin, because this universe is not that universe and thus this person is not 'real' here either. Something in between. A real person who existed in a world people would consider fiction from my mind.
It's a puzzling part of me, I'm still trying to discern the data.
I know for certain that;
Humans were not the dominant species and were considered 'just another animal'
We were kept in artificial habitats which were a lot like modern homes/cities though limited in size
We were infrequently interacted with for health checks and tests of intelligence/obedience etc
We were likely a lot less intelligent and/or sentient that those who looked after us
However we had a lot of artistic skills (people would draw, paint, make sculptures, create and tell stories, put on plays, dance, craft and play instruments etc) and we had the knowlege and ability to use tools and provided resources to build dwellings that had electricity and indoor pluming so we weren't much lesser if any lesser than modern humans in this universe our resources and opportunies were just much more limited
I did not reach old age and very few humans did
I had a name given to me by those around me but was also refered to as something else by those who looked after us
I do not know for certain;
What the species of our (captors? benefacters? keepers?) were
If wild humans existed
What they really wanted of us
How many enclosures like mine which contained roughly 500 individuals existed or where they existed
What sex/gender (male feels right I think) I was or what those names I mentioned were
Things which feel right but I have no real way of knowing;
Breeding was selected for us by those who looked after us and many of us were made infertile on purpose to prevent unwanted pregnancies
Some had high opinions of humans and some did not, treatment therefore varied on who was 'working' that day
I feel like the name my keepers gave me was something akin to 'Sunstripe' but I'm not sure (and I featured in something which might have been TV to these creatures or just filming as part of their studies) whilst my human name was a sound that has no translation because human languages were more like advanced theriform ape vocalisations than what we consider language here and the name had no selected meaning other than to be a name
Fiction where aliens care for humans, cooing over us the way humans coo over theriform animals strike a cord with me. Whoever looked after us they were a lot bigger than us and interacted primarily via robotic arms and other such devices.
What really attracts me though is Planet of the Apes scenarios. Not as in 'what if other kinds of apes got really smart of all of a sudden'. But as in, what if every other kind of ape except humans evolved very quickly, whilst humans evolved very slowly. And what if therefore they advanced beyond humans so much that humans became the 'theriform apes' of this universe.
Both feel...right? Wrong? Is this two different sets of information becoming muddled in my memory banks?
I wish I could talk to others which may remember such a thing. Apes or aliens. Maybe it would make sense then.
I think I get it like, if you fall under AUman but it's only because of a fictional identity (like, say, a human from Star Wars who lives on another planet/was born there because humans do that in the story/time period of the story), that's not what AUman means, right? - Ryley
>Hello again!_
>If it's only because of a fictional identity I would prefer you didn't use AUman_
>Fictionfolk have a lot of language already, but there's next to nothing for those whose identity is not based in fiction_
>Especially if it's also not based on something you can prove as fact either!_

Here's an interesting identity aspect I have;
Sometimes I do feel like I am human BUT when I feel like I am a human, it's one who exists in a universe where humans are not the world-ruling species and are instead one of many animals watched over by a higher species. The world they live in is actually an advanced kind of zoo/sanctuary where humans are being studied, cared for and also recorded/broadcast for entertainment due to being seen as interesting/cute by this species. I also look different and have a different name, both within my culture and one I recognise as being given to me by my specific nonhuman caretakers who have been watching over me since birth.
Otherwise I don't feel human at all, not in this universe.
I know that counts as alterhuman. What I wonder is if there's a more succinct term (AUman maybe?) or if anyone feels this way too?
AUman being like...you're a human but not from this universe (and maybe not even looking like or having the same identity as 'now') but also not from a known fictional universe either, just a unique universe all your own.
Hello!
I'm [use a 'types name or Sunchild]. Adult. He/it (Genderfaun). Autistic (prof dx, pro-self dx).
An adescriptive Pseudohuman from NW Yorkshire, UK. I also just call myself alterhuman for ease lol
Follows & likes from @kevin--of-desert-bluffs (Cw: blood, unreality and body/face horror).
I do not mind answering genuinely curious questions about my identity.
Not transID/transX or radqueer positive, DNI.
I coin terms sometimes I guess?
Theriform: @vadosevougha helped me to create this word when I was attempting to label my definition, so credit is due its way too. See the link for a full FAQ.
AUman: when you are a human from a different universe which is not currently depicted in a fictional setting in this one therefore not fictionkin, but also not factkin as your identity is unique to your setting. I understand there is significant overlap with Otherhuman and only use this personally, but others may use it too.
Chronoplace: when your hearthome is/you have an intense connection to a time period/specific date including fictional/stereotyped/idolised depictions of time periods. Alt: chronotype (this can also be used if you ARE a time period or date).
This can be related to another identity but might be less superfluous a term when isolated or when the feeling of longing for that time is more impactful outside of simply wishing to be somewhere familiar due to being X.
“AUman: when you are a human from a different universe which is not currently depicted in a fictional setting in this one therefore not fictionkin, but also not factkin as your identity is unique to your setting.”
If you don’t mind me asking… What’s the difference between this and otherhuman?
“Otherhuman is a term used to describe humans who strongly believe that they should have been born in another universe, including fictional ones. Individuals who identify as Otherhuman may experience a profound sense of displacement in their current reality, feeling a strong connection or affinity to an alternate universe or fictional setting. This term reflects a deep-seated belief that their true existence or identity lies beyond the confines of their present human experience.”
Can AUman be considered a more specific sublabel, under the otherhuman umbrella? Just specifically talking about worlds that haven’t been described elsewhere in this universe?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
>There are no stupid questions!_
>I came up with AUman purely to explain my own experiences, but when some interest was shown by others I put it forth for anyone_
>At this time, I had no idea that the term Otherhuman existed_
>And I wouldn't personally umbrella it because I feel there is a distinction that makes AUman and Otherhuman their own things that just happen to describe human identities and alternative universes_
>Reading the description now, it feels like Otherhuman is more comparable to having a heart home {as I understand it}_
>As in, one is still human, one is still their current self, but one believes they should have been born in a completely different universe {including fictional ones, which AUman does not include}_
>An AUman is already from that other universe and was a different person {though still human} in that universe either because it's a past life, a paralell life, or some other kind of displacement_
>If I felt like I <<my current self>> should have been born into a universe where humans are looked after in a zoo by advanced creatures but I haven't been in any way, I would be Otherhuman_
>But as it stands I have already been in/am already from that universe, so I'm an AUman_
>To me it feels like the difference between being fully human but feeling like one should have been born as a wolf/would have been happier as a wolf and being a wolf therian thus one is already a wolf in this life one is just not theriform_
>Does that explain it or just further confuse it? [^-^']_
[EDIT]:
>There's a lot of specifics to AUman, so if Otherhuman encapsulates it more broadly, then yes AUman is under the umbrella of it rather than stand alone_
