The group's mechanics (Dedede, Uranus, Susie, and Magolor) created his new body, using his previous form as a base. He's the second penguin in the group, which led to them joking that Galem would only adopt penguins as siblings.
His core is located in his chest, roughly where his heart would be, so he prefers to keep it covered to avoid illuminating anything around him. He traded his bandana for the scarf his siblings gave him, especially after learning they made it with his feathers and scales just for him.
One of the surprises he had was discovering that his ability to create shadows wasn't due to his current state, but rather that at some point he ended up as a soul mage with that magic.
Although they theorize that technically, during the time he was a fragment, his soul met the conditions to be considered a soul mage, even though he wasn't technically dead (that's because if his core is whole, he can't die, only weaken and temporarily lose his form), he had to learn to control his magic and, incidentally, to defend himself on his travels.
