If you read my previous post about the 'sound illusions", here is my experience..
MATCHBOX RATTLE: i felt really uncomfortable, the sound of the rattling started to scare me, & i realised afterwards that it's just such a simple tiny object, but the way the sound was produced made me really scared. i liked how i could feel them moving the matchbox around my head.
THE PHANTOM ILLUSIONS: scared me too... i think maybe it's because it's almost midnight and i'm listening to these, but the constant repetition of these words, with no change at all, scared me and also eventually the words started not sounding like what she stated to say even though she was saying the same word. but it got boring half way through. there are many version, but i listened to the first two (http://www.philomel.com/phantom_words/example_phantom_words.php)
FALLING BELLS: not as scary, but still a bit frightening... (http://www.moillusions.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/falling.mp3) i liked the illusion of the bells falling, interesting, we think the bells pitch is becoming lower when it's actually becoming higher.
SHEPARDS ASCENDING TONES: interesting, it was confusing, i couldn't tell when it started or ended wen played on loop. http://www.moillusions.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/shepards.mp3)
THE QUICKENING BEAT:i don't believe that the tempo at the end was the same at the start. http://www.moillusions.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/beat.mp3
MCGURK EFFECT: most interesting one for me, it's so crazy to see visuals and audio put together and how that changes sound! (read instructions before watching video, posted on previous post, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFPtc8BVdJk)
i think why these illusions were so scary for me was because i had to have my eyes closed and these sounds were made and i couldn't see anything just hearing it. & as discussed in class, my biggest fear is not seeing but hearing.
