River and what she Whispered
When River and the Doctor meet in the Library she whispers something in his ear to get him to trust her. It’s revealed by the Doctor that she whispered his name.
I’ve been thinking of twists to add to this little scene for fics, or just plain what-if scenarios. Like what if River wasn’t the Doctor’s Wife, and was actually an enemy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love River. I don’t actually ship anyone with the Doctor, but if I did River would be it. So know that I don’t actually believe the next sentence in any way, shape, or form, and it all comes down to a universe where River is the bad guy.
What if the name the Future!Doctor gave to River was a warning to his past self, a name that only he knew meant ‘this person is not to be trusted’? Of course, River thinks it’s his real name, and so he plays along with trusting her. And then at the end, when River sacrifices herself for him, he’s torn between letting her believe as she dies that he does trust her, or revealing to her as she dies that he never did.
(I’m slightly horrified at what just came out of my brain. Oops.)
