You Got Some F-ing Attitude
I work at a fast food place. On an approximately quarterly basis we need to get the ventilation hoods over the fryers and grills cleaned. Management contract some outside company that has special power washer things that they use to do this. We're normally 24 hours, but for this, we outright close for a few hours.
We break down the line that was set up for lunch/dinner, and I just wash dishes for a few hours. I actually like these nights. I think I'd be happier as a dishwasher at the right casual restaurant, rather than doing customer service at this fast food place.
We have a computer in the break room. I think it's intended purpose is to watch training videos for newbie orientations. It is hooked up to decently powerful speakers and has an internet connection: I use it to play Youtube playlists, and I usually curate these playlists to be as SFW as possible. I'm still trying to decide whether the damns in "Bad Reputation" are enough to take it off my main playlist. Last night I decided since we wouldn't have customers, I would play my one NSFW playlist, which has all the songs that I like that I know cross a line, like some of my favorite Misfits songs.
Since we're closed, we try to look as closed as possible. We black out the menu boards by the speakers. We shut off all the signage we can. I think there's one digital sign that promotes our specials that we can't shut off. We actually went so far as to block off our drive-thru speaker with road cones.
Even so, some people can not take a hint. A small line of cars had by-passed the blocked off speakers and pulled right up to the first drive-thru window. As my manager opens the window to tell these people that we are closed for maintenance, the song that comes on is The Misfits song "Attitude", and I quietly nod to myself that this is a perfect moment. Right on, Glenn.
