Prompt 19: Weal
a raised mark on the skin caused by being hit or injured
Character(s): Atticus Wolfram Cw: very mild injury and blood descriptions but really only mentions of it, no major detail Word count: 695 Notes: all of my ocâs fit this one so in the true nature of an indecisive person, I did a random name generator! It landed on Atticus so have a soft and angsty story of some pre-arr hcs :3 Sorry if the âeventâ is vague here but I plan to elaborate it further later on cause it is canon to his backstory but I didnât have the time or brain space to type it all out XDÂ
âYouâre reckless, you know that?âÂ
Atticus wanted to laugh in response but that soon cut off with a hiss through his teeth as a cold cloth was gently pressed to his cheek. As much as the coolness should have brought relief to to fresh cut on his skin, it ended up stinging much more.Â
âKeep hold of that to stop the bleeding and Iâll tend to your other wounds.âÂ
Atticus obeyed, knowing better to not argue with the woman who had been looking after him ever since he arrived to Ulâdah. She was much older than him, a short and stout hyur woman named Ryelle who ran a local herb and remedy shop. âIâm no healer, but I can make a damn good potion,â she had told him when he first stumbled into her shop nearly three years ago. Ever since then, it became almost second nature to go to her when he needed a potion or two to numb the aches and pains from his job since he had no affinity to healing magic either. And over the years, she began to look out for him more than just selling a remedy or two, becoming one of the few people who knew about his past and his current occupation, the real one and the under the table one.
âWhat did you do this time?â Ryelle asked in quiet exasperation as she gingerly lifted his arms one at a time to examine the scratches and weals that decorated them, some already bruising underneath the dried blood. âGunbreaker business, or Reaper business?âÂ
Atticus didnât respond, the wound on his cheek still made it difficult to talk. Even so, he didnât think he could talk about it just yet, the mere thought of having to recount the previous event to someone made his throat tight and his eyes sting. Though he tried to keep his expression stoic, Ryelle was too observant and caught on.Â
âYou donât have to hide it Atticus,â she said softly as she took over the cloth again still placed against his cheek. âbut you can tell me when youâre ready.â she pulled the cloth away, discarding it now that it was red with blood and gently brushed a thumb near the raised skin, still reddened and raw but at least the bleeding had stopped. âThis will probably scar,â Ryelle tutted and Atticus winced a little at the contact. âIâll at least get you a potion to help aid the pain and healing process but without any sort of healing magic, youâll have this as a reminder every time you look in the mirror.â
Atticus swallowed the lump in his throat, finally finding his voice. âI want the reminder.âÂ
What he had to do today would be forever burned into his memory and the physical reminder of his mistake would be enough to not let things get out of hand again like they did today. That was his thought process, at least. One that probably made no sense to the woman in front of him but it was enough for him and that was all that mattered.Â
Ryelle let out a sigh as she gave the Elezen a fresh cold cloth to press to his cheek again before standing up. âStay put with that, Iâll grab the potions for you and then we'll stitch and bandage you up.âÂ
Another silent nod as she began to retreat to the front of the store. âOh and Atticus?â A quiet hum in response. âAfter Iâm through, Iâm closing up early and making you a nice dinner and youâll be staying here for a few days to rest, got it?âÂ
Atticus looked up at her, a small grateful smile spreading across his face. âThanks Ryelle,â he really didnât know how or when this whole mother/son relationship between them became so strong but he didnât want to question it. It was something he had craved since he fled his homeland and he wanted to hold tightly to it as long as he could.Â
Ryelle smiled warmly in return. âThink none of it, love.â She then disappeared to the storefront to gather her supplies to finish patching him up.Â

Prompt 2: Bark
the sharp explosive cry of certain animals, especially a dog, fox, or seal.
Character(s): Atticus Wolfram and some random poor Hyur in Ulâdah Cw: mild language, implied violence Word count: 1758 Notes: So this took a bit because I got super invested in it. (This also contains my own hc with Reaper and voidsent stuff!) Remember when I said to not piss off Attitcusâs voidsent? Well hereâs that. /runs/
âGot a job for youâshould be easy.âÂ
Atticus took a swig of his ale as a small piece of parchment was passed to him across the table. He read it over a few times before looking back up at the Roegadyn in front of him with a frown. âYou mean you have a job for the Raven,â he stated flatly, eyeing his client suspiciously. âYou called me here telling me you needed my skill as your Gunbreaker but from the looks of this, you actually need my skill as a Reaper.âÂ
The Roegadyn shrugged with an amused huff. âWould youâve come here if I was honest?â And when he was met with silence, he continued on with ease. âListen, a mere thug couldnât make this man shake in his boots, I need a real threat to silence him. Heâs been slandering my business to anyone he seesââ
âYou run a pretty shady business, Loezais.â Atticus cut in, arching an eyebrow. âIâm honestly surprised you havenât been arrested by the Flames by now.â
Loezais glanced behind Atticusâs shoulder, as if expecting someone to burst through his private office before leaning forward with a sigh. âThatâs not the point of why I need you. I need you to rough him up a bit, scare him a little, and also he somehow managed to steal some documents that very well could get me arrested. I need them backâhis slander isnât really an issue if he doesnât have the blackmail.â
âWell,â Atticus chuckled, leaning back and crossing his arms. âYou shouldâve started with that information in the first place. I canât very well have my best client go under, now can I?â His tone was laced with sarcasm that Loezais didnât find the least bit amusing.Â
âAre you going to take the job or not?âÂ
âAnd why canât you do it?â Atticus tested as he leaned forward again, knowing the question would get him nowhere. âYour appearance alone is enough to send anyone running.âÂ
Loezais threw him another displeased look. âYouâre the Raven, arenât you? My reputation is only shady, not formidable like yours.âÂ
A silent standoff passed between them before Atticus finally threw his hands up in defeat. âAlright, alright.â he knocked back the rest of his ale and stood up, scraping the chair against the floor. âYour reward amount is big enough to pay off some of my other debts so Iâll take the job.â Atticus snatched the parchment from the table, glancing back at Loezais who looked way too smug. The Elezen threw him a disapproving look before making his leave. âJust, donât lure me under false pretenses next time.âÂ
