I asked the Old Spider for an omen regarding a situation I'm dealing with, and less than 30 seconds after voicing my request, this large Cupboard Spider lowered itself directly onto my hand using its silken tether.

I've recently been going through the work of codifying my years of writings into an illustrated grimoire. While this is a large undertaking, in and of itself, it's also something I've had massive reservations about for a number of reasons. As such, I ritualized an earnest plea to the Old Spider, and requested a clear omen within the day to help me understand once and for all if attempting to undertake this work is acceptable to the Star-Weaver. I expressed that, should no omen come, I would take that as a negatory response.
A bit later in the day, I discovered a newly hatched brood of Orb Weaver Spiders clustering on our Pregnant Onion plant. I've observed the Spider I believe was their mother, as she lived in our Greenhouse all this last year, but I never noticed her nest. As such, this was a delightful surprise, which I believed fulfilled the terms of my requested Omen.
Hail to the Spider and its Web of Wending Ways.
Our retired Oblation Vessel has a new home in this wall cabinet we found being sold for a few dollars, which is also designated haven for the spiders in our Fane.
"The ability of spiders to spin webs has caused them to be associated with magic in many folklore legends throughout Europe. Some commentators have likened the process to casting spells, and terms like "the thread of magic" and "a web of magic" indicate such beliets.
Spinning and weaving have long been associated with the Fates. Professor Eva Pocs (Between the Living and the Dead, Central European University Press, 1999) states there are thirty-six documented cases, spanning three centuries of Witch trials, in which a "fate goddess" appears in Hungarian Witchcraft. Poc also states that all the goddesses mentioned in Witchcraft trials are associated with spinning. She notes that Hungarian Witch trials mention Witches spinning, weaving, or carrying spindles."

“The light is like a spider.
It crawls over the water.
It crawls over the edges of the snow.
It crawls under your eyelids
And spreads its webs there—
The webs of your eyes
Are fastened
To the flesh and bones of you
As to rafters of grass.
There are filaments of your eyes
On the surface of the water
And in the edges of the snow.”

Wisefool’s Oil
Along with the other four Hooworking Oils Ive talked about here, I now add Wisefool’s Oil to the mix. Each of my Hoodworking Oils are made using a different high quality carrier-oil that has been steadily infused with a wide variety of ritually gathered, magically germane, natural materials. The recipes I use have arisen from a mixture of folkloric knowledge, personal experimentation, and spiritual communication, with each having proven themselves as potent Craft aids when properly utilized.
Wisefool’s Oil is a highly specialized Oil blend, which was ritually amalgamated from a number of synergistic constituents bearing sorcerous and spidereal significance—which include, but are not limited to, Acorn Oil, Storax, Mandrake, Vervain, Crocus, Fly Agaric, and Blue Amber. It was carefully curated under the guidance of the Old Spider, over the course of a Lunar Month, and then further refined over the course of several more weeks.
It has a singularly unique scent, as anyone who has purchased or otherwise received this oil from me can attest to, which makes it quite difficult to describe. However, I would probably best describe the smell as being somewhere between sweet, nutty, resinous, floral, and herby. It manages to take me a little by surprise each time I smell it, but I also find it to be a thoroughly pleasant scent.
It is meant to amplify any and all workings of magic, being specially designed for its sorcerous versatility. Empowered by the Sidereal Spider, it can be used to consecrate implements, bless items, or bolster any form magic. Like its companions, it is a powerfully fashioned oil, and a little bit can go a long way—but to those who practice a Spidereal Craft and/or follow the ways of Old Spider, it will prove itself a most potent aid indeed.
The Attercob’s Oblation Vessel:
Offering Pot of the Old Spider
While visiting my family with my partner, we both got a very strong feeling that we should visit this small flea market we came across. While perusing the tents, we each gasped and fell silent at the same time, having both laid eyes upon this piece.
It depicts the figure—spoken of in multiple indigenous cultures of North America—known frequently as Spider Grandmother, or Spider Woman, and it was made in 1970 by an artisan who hails from the same tribe as both of partner’s great-grandmothers. The moment we saw it, we knew we were meant to find it, and now it has found its home as a central component of our Altar to the Sidereal Spider.
