It goes beyond that. Industrial scale atrocities were invented by humans. The propaganda that gets people to think those horrible things are justified, those were invented by humans.

Most animals do not have "morality".

Sure some mammals have loyalty and empathy (canines, felines, even bears and badgers). Some birds and other species as well have that.

But it is really only humans that can get freaked out by seeing a photograph of an animal or human being horribly abused. It is only humans who set up charities to protect animals and ppl they have never met.

And it is also only humans who set up bureacracy to abuse other humans and other life forms in unprecedented and horrific ways.

All of us are more capable of acting with empathy and also acting with cruelty than any other being on the planet.

I have never been able to source this quote, but i am pretty sure i didn't come up with it:

"Humans are moral creatures. The problem is that you can convince a human that anything is moral"

Anyway, the point, as always is not only that you are not immune to propaganda, but it is actually a characteristic of our literal humanity as social animals.

So. While that sort of sucks. And it took us almost 2,000 years between major slave revolts and a lot of people saying slavery was bad, until many societies banned slavery. (and yet we are still doing slavery as a species). The international community at least gives lip service to it being bad (yes i know it isnt enough but look at how bad shit used to be)

It is still true that more ppl agree that slavery is bad than ever before.

Even if the geneva conventions are not being respected as often as they should be, and my cat would happily genocide any bird species around here if i let him go outside.

That is actually better than the geneva conventions not existing, or ppl just letting their invasive species pets go around with no supervision.

Additionally: the internet is full of propaganda and misinformation. But it is also full of people who want to fact check. It is also full of ppl who don't want atrocities commited.

And like every other motherfucking human technology. This is a whole-ass double edged sword. It is characteristic of our species.
