Evolution Destroyed in 3 minutes

In the video above, a Christian Brother tries his best to refute evolution, I guess after a heated exchange with an atheist online. This video has gone viral. Many Christians are declaring, “Yeah he told them!” Except he didn’t.

He gets a lot wrong. So have I in the past and certainly in the future. (Heck maybe in this blog but I don’t think so.) As disciples of Christ, we are supposed to be getting better together. I share some corrections below not to “dog" my brother, but to prevent my friends from quoting or reposting this well-intended but flawed video.

New readers should understand my worldview.

My beliefs are as follows:

- I believe the Scriptures are infallible.

- I don’t believe in the macro-evolution of humans from a lower life form.

- I believe that Jesus is both Christ and God in the flesh.

So these corrections are not coming from a ‘hater.’ I make these corrections because I care about how we, the Body of Christ present ourselves. In particular, I am concerned with our college students.

1). Assertion: Evolution is not observable and therefore not science.

Answers:

A). Science has observed the Atlantic tomcod develop a resistance to lethal PCB’s.

Here is the research:

B). In addition, many fields of science do not observe the actual event.

Example: Astrologers don’t have stars under their laboratory coats.

2). Assertion: Evolution is just a theory.

Answer: If you are witnessing to someone who has a S.T.E.M. degree, and you say evolution is just a theory, you MIGHT look like an idiot. The term “Theory” in the scientific community means a well thought out and well tested explanation for an event or phenomena. In the scientific community, a theory is past the “Hunch” phase.

3). Assertion: Evolution conflicts with the Second law of thermodynamics. Order can not come from chaos.

Answer: His assertion is true within a closed system. The universe as a whole is getting colder, and it is decaying. The Earth as an example is not a closed system, it is constantly receiving energy from the sun. Therefore, order can increase on the Earth.

4). Assertion: The brother says toward the end, “You believe in the Big Bang, but my bible says ‘Let there be’! (Paraphrase)

Answer: The vast preponderance of Christians with backgrounds in cosmology and astrophysics believe:

A). The Big Bang Theory is settled science.

B). The cosmology of the Christian Scriptures aligns with Big Bang cosmology.
