Zuko clasps his face with his hands and brings them up to push back his hair, “Shit… you were right, I never should’ve told him anything…”

“No, no…” Katara quickly interjected, “It’s probably better that he knows the truth…” she hoped the conviction she feigned would at least make him believe so, although considering everything she still wasn’t quite sure of herself.

“Still… I feel awful Katara, that you had to be a victim of my shallow emotions. If space is what will heal this predicament, take all that you need. Like I said before, you don’t owe me anything.”

But I don’t wanna be apart from you again… the thought nearly escapes her throat. No. It’s better this way. This is the way it has to be. There’s no one else who can be there for Aang like she can. No one else who could bear this burden. And if she was the only one who could help him in the ways she always has, who would she be to turn her back on him, especially at a time like this?

“I’m also sorry that it has to be so awkward like this now,” she attempted to heal the hint of a somber in the lines of his brow she refused to acknowledge “Sometimes …” she paused. Nobody could hear them anyways, “Sometimes I wish we could all get along like before.”

“Me too…” his eyes were so earnest it hurt.

He turned away from her, scanning the perimeter as if he were turning the sights over in his head. Then he flipped back to her a second later, “But let’s not live today with the regrets of yesterday.”

“Huh?” she blinked. Was he trying to make her feel better? A smirk formed and despite herself she jested, “Iroh is that you?”

“I-I’m still honing down on all the wisdom I grew up not listening to..” he bashfully admitted, rubbing his neck. She decides to hold back jabbing at him again.

“To living with no regrets?” he asks his hand outstretched to her.

“To living with no regrets,” she hears herself repeat even as she avoids his eyes, shaking his hand.

I knew some spoilers before I watched ATLA because let's be real, there's a low chance of someone not being spoiled by now.

However, I didn't know the particular details of how some things happen, and this is something like how I thought Zuko releasing Appa would go. It's gonna be part of a series where I tackle all moments like this I have, and that includes Azula finding Katara in Ba Sing Se.
