Happy Friday!! | @dadrunkwriting
Thank you for this prompt! It really came at a wonderful time and I knew I just had to write it tonight!
Words: 423
The fireplace crackled, a welcomed sound in the silence that had filled the room.Â
Anneliese had joined Athell in her bed, laying together as Annelieseâs fingers carded through Athellâs hair. It would be hard to sleep with her so near, Athell knew that simply from the nights they spent in one anotherâs tents so long ago.Â
âI am not getting much sleep tonight, am I?â
âNo..â Anneliese shook her head, running her fingers through the loose strands once more. âNot really. Four years in the Fade, I think you have been sleeping long enough.â
âAlright.â Athell sat up with a soft chuckle, turning her head towards Anneliese as light strands filtered through the warrior queenâs fingers. âWhat is it that youâre dragging me into?â
Anneliese had paused for a moment, brushing some hair away from Athellâs eyes in thought. There was a flicker in those green eyes, something that Athell couldnât pin down for the life of her.Â
âAthellâŠâ Annelieseâs hand found the back of Athellâs neck, firm and steady to hold her in place. âI donât want to drag you into anything⊠I would prefer to hold your hand and walk with you for a change.â
Athellâs brows slightly furrowed, eyes blinking as she searched for answers in Annelieseâs gaze.Â
âThatâs not what I meantââ
It was sudden, Annelieseâs fingers tightening in Athellâs hair as she was silenced with the crashing of their lips.
All the breath in Athellâs lungs had been stolen, her eyes closing to keep the room from spinning.Â
Athell made an attempt to pull away, shaking her head as she could barely think straight. âAnnelieseâŠâ
âDonât.â The word came out soft, softer than anything that Athell had heard before, âDonât run from me nowâŠâ
Athell blinked again, a sharp pain prickling its way to her heart. She had been so focused on her own feelings, on her own circumstances, that she hadnât considered just how hard it mustâve been for anyone else⊠Especially for Anneliese.
âI wonât.â Athell promised, reaching out and cupping Annelieseâs cheek. âI wouldnât dare run from you.â
Athell leaned in, kissing Anneliese back just to prove it. Soft, unbelievably so in comparison to the rest of her.Â
This⊠It had been the feeling Athell had spent years wondering what it was like. To be the one Anneliese had loved, even for a stolen moment.
Athell was pulled closer, trying not to fall clumsily into Annelieseâs lap.Â
It felt real, the war was finally over and she could finally liveâŠ

Precious moments were rare and few. Athell knew this well, knowing that her life was going to rely on these few little moments.Â
Anneliese often found her way into Athellâs room, in her bed with Zevran and Alistair. They would sprawl out in a small heap of limbs, staying close and taking up as much space as possible.Â
That night had been no different. Except for Annelieseâs head pillowed on Athellâs chest.Â
âYouâre thinking again.â Anneliese murmured, eyes closed but not yet asleep, unlike Alistair who snored like a mabari beside them.Â
âAs one tends to do.â Athellâs fingers carded through Annelieseâs hair, dark strands filtering through her fingers as her mind wandered.Â
They havenât really spoken much of Athellâs time in the Fade, everyoneâs relief that she survived outweighed the fact that she made a choice to stay. She still had yet to discuss it with Carver, during their morning routine of breakfast and sparring.Â
âThe Fade made my magic burn hotter, harder to control.â Athell started, playing with Annelieseâs hair. âThe Nightmare only served its purpose, often giving me dreams within dreams, strange as it were.â
âAthellâŠâ
âI know.â She shook her head, humming softly. âBut youâll worry regardless. Not much changes thatâŠâ
hello! how about "I didn't mean it." with your surana?

Another one from the depths of the shared worldstate I'm working on with @thewardenisonthecase! It's very rough, as I lost my train of thought during planning this out but it was fun to think about!

âYouâre strangely quiet today.â
âIâm trying to decide what color would go with your eyes. Perhaps a pink.â
âAre you attempting to dress me in your mind?â
âIâm attempting to undress you too.â
It was the stupidest thing that had ever left her mouth. Athell had to bury her face in her makeshift pillow that night and scream from how ridiculous that it sounded.Â
~
âIs the attempting to undress me only in your mind, or will you try it in the real world too?â Anneliese had Athell backed up against the tree, leaning with one hand pressed against the trunk.Â
The silence brought itself on their shoulders, Athellâs eyes averted to the ground. Her cheeks were burning pink, no doubt the tips of her ears were flushed with a similar color. She had little escape, without looking like an even bigger fool than what she already had felt for making the comment in the first place.Â
âI didnât mean it.â Athell attempted, clearing her throat as she braved a look to Annelieseâs face. All she found there was the smugness, a challenge to what was said between them.Â
âSo, youâre a coward.â
Coward. If her face was not already red, that would have made it worse. Worse than anything, in fact.Â
âI never said that.âÂ
âNo, but you did just say that you didnât mean it. Either you meant it, and you want it, or you did not. Which is it?â
âThis is not the way I wanted to go about it.âÂ
âOkay⊠Would it be better if I stood over there for you to try again?â

A small AU for our beloved Doomed Yuri! Mixed both prompts together as it went well together

Highever in mid-spring was at its liveliest.Â
Between the tourneys and the matchmaking, there was never a shortage for what a young lady to be excited about.Â
Coming from Kinloch Hold, Athell was given the unique opportunity to become the court mage for the Couslands. And with opportunities, it seemed, Athell would find herself in trouble.Â
âDo you desire it?âÂ
Athell did not answer, nor did she think that she should. After spending most of the afternoon staring as Anneliese collected favors from ladies, it was something that had crossed her mind once or twice.Â
âAthellâŠâ
âShould I say it aloud? What would that change between us? Shall I shout it from the rooftops that I crave it? Your favor, your touch⊠YouâŠâ
âPerhaps not from the rooftops. But to me, as I deserve to hear it.â
There was a moment that passed in silence, where the two were staring at each other unwavering. Annelieseâs armor glinted in the flickering lantern light, a reminder that the festivities were still in progress.
âDo you desire it?â Athell echoed Annelieseâs question back at her, running a hand through her hair as she was the first to look away. âThereâs not a shortage of those who desire your attention, Anneliese.â
It wasnât something Athell could easily ignore, while ladies often did give Anneliese their undivided attention and some form of token, a favor. A sword often at Annelieseâs side had a ribbon or several, all colors of varying shades of Highever blue.
âThat doesnât answer my question, Athell.â Anneliese leaned in close, her face inches away from Athellâs. âI asked if you desire me. Not half of Highever.â
A moment, small and fleeting, Athell could not bear the tone. If it were disappointment, she would not be able to bear it.Â
Athell finally decided, for once, she would not tuck tail and run. For once, for that small, fleeting moment, she was brave enough.Â
Her hand cupped Annelieseâs cheek, her thumb rubbing against the surface before leaning in. A quick, small peck, hardly a press, hardly anything more. To brave those waters.
âI have no right to love you.â Athell whispered into the space between their lips. âBut I do, Anneliese. And itâs terrifying.â
âIâd rather it be terrifying than it be easy. Because it means itâs worth something.â
Anneliese did not let Athell go too far, pulling the mage back close into another kiss. A little more firm than the one before, more assured.Â
Athell sucked in a relieved breath, for at least there was the assurance that she was not being rejected in her affections.

A little Doomed Yuri for this prompt co-signed by @thewardenisonthecase for helping this along.
Words: 565
Time was a precious thing.Â
She had been thankful, for all the well wishes and the support that came with her return from the Fade. Zevran and Anneliese would take turns coming into her room in the night to check on her, Carver spent hours in the day telling her stories of the times that she had missed.Â
The evening had settled, the shuffling of feet and doors had grown quiet. Athell, propped up against pillows with a Varric Tethras novel that she had been given as a gift, for not dying, as Carver had put it, did not expect the light knock on the door before it creaked open.Â
âShouldnât you be resting?â Anneliese had entered, the door clicking softly behind her.Â
âShouldnât you be asleep?â Athell countered, closing the book and setting it onto the nightstand.Â
âI would.â Anneliese walked over to the chair kept at the bedside, sitting down as she placed a small stack of books on top of the blanket. âHad it not been for these.â
The covers were worn, old but well taken care of. Athellâs fingers followed the cover of the top one, confused. âWhat are these?â
âI was hoping you would be able to tell me that⊠Leliana had sent them about a year after you⊠After your letter arrived.â
Athell looked up from the covers, hands freezing in place. Her journals, yellowed pages from time, had been in the care of the one person it terrified her the most to have. Leliana had good intentions, no doubt, but those good intentions had the tips of Athellâs ears and her cheeks heating up.
âAnneliese...â
âI couldnât bring myself to read them.â Anneliese waved her hand gently, shaking her head. âIt didnât feel right⊠To read it without you here.â
âEven though you didnât know if I was coming back?â
Anneliese looked at the journals, taking a deep breath before speaking. âI was tempted, many times. I would look at these, and I'd remember how you'd sit by the fire, scribbling away while no one looked.â She looked at Athell, eyes soft. âThese journals...I felt like they were sacred to you. It felt wrong to read them, even if you werenât here. It was as if I was invading your privacy, I couldn't do it.â
Athell sat back against the pillows, blinking in as she stared at Anneliese. Even if Athell wouldnât have returned, the thought of Anneliese never knowing⊠It was a sweet notion, though utterly sickening to think about.Â
âYou⊠should.â Athell nodded slowly, her hand lingering on the cover. âYou should read them, Anneliese. I know that I canât make up for the time lost, and I regret that I ever left your side. But this⊠You deserve to know why Leliana sent them to you.â
It was the best and worst thing that she could have said, her hands lifting the journals and holding them out to Anneliese. There was a time when she would have shuddered at the thought of letting Anneliese read the words, her words, her feelings. But they were older, time a chasm with a rope bridge between them.Â
âAre you sure about this?â Anneliese gently took the journals from Athellâs hand, hesitant.
Athell nodded once more, scooting over and patting the bed beside her. âI have had enough secrets between us, if itâs all the same to you.â
