Booker took a quick look around, his shotgun leading his every step. All seemed quiet quiet for a change, and it made him nervous for some reason. It was pretty sad that getting shot at had become normal for him. He glanced over his shoulder, making a mental note of where the girl was.
“I’d hate to push my luck, but it looks like we’re safe for now.”
Safe. Like there was such a thing in Columbia.
He hoisted the firearm over his shoulder, and turned to face his companion. She seemed distracted by something. He wondered what it was like for the whole world to be new, like it was for her.
He might have personally ruined her image of an idyllic, beautiful world beyond her cage, but if he hadn't done it, her father probably would have. And if he had, she'd be much worse off, Booker was sure of it.
She hadn't seemed to have heard him, he took a few steps closer to her.
“Hey, Elizabeth?” He called
