Power Distribution Improves in Madhya Pradesh as RDSS Work Continues
Madhya Pradesh's three Power Distribution companies reduced aggregate AT&C Losses to 22.76% in FY25, down from 41.72% in FY21. The reported cost-revenue position also moved from a Rs1.23-per-unit deficit to a Rs0.04 surplus. However, combined borrowings remained Rs49,239 crore, with accumulated losses of Rs71,394 crore. RDSS Scheme execution is still incomplete: feeder segregation and network augmentation are around halfway through sanctioned quantities, while 23,714 of 43,775 new distribution transformers have been installed. Of 1.298 crore Smart Metering installations sanctioned, only 40.18 lakh had been completed. The reform test therefore moves beyond improved state averages to sustained utility-level loss reduction, completion of sanctioned infrastructure and eventual reduction of legacy financial liabilities.
