It wasn’t really clear in this particular episode, but we know from Heat Signature that “these movies” aren’t super advanced holo-vids or fancy magic movies. They’re just old fashioned VHS tapes.

Is the Great Mushroom War the dividing line between the “normal world” and Ooo as it is now? Is that was caused the giant crater we saw a while back?

Maybe I’m being too grim, but given the implication that this was a civilization ending event, calling it “the mushroom war” just makes me think of, well...
