Marcus is dead. Or was dead. He’s walking around in a state of very much not alive. He knows he is dead...or was dead...but doesn’t know how or why he died and came back to life.Â
All he knows is that Diana will take care of him. Necromancers don’t have to be evil and she is the nicest mage he’s ever met (since he died, that is). She doesn’t call him undead, or zombie, or freak of nature. She calls him Marcus. She’ll always put him back together if his limbs get lopped off or he loses his head again.Â
So Marcus will do anything to protect Diana, his mom of his undead life. Because she would do the same for him.Â

When they went to go get the darkness I half expected it to turn out the bad guy had been hiding in her and they hadn’t killed him in that warehouse.
