hMMM for the meem i'm gonna say either Harry or Ilma, whichever you'd find more interesting
“It has been three months since our current little pet project, codename Prickled Stalker, has been introduced into our forest and desert biomes… Really need to talk to the research department about their creative naming license sometime. Maybe sometime after this month’s potluck.” Phobos stated plainly into a recorder, her dissatisfaction apparent on her face as she stared down onto a rather large dome. The transparent glass atop exposed an artificial environment consisting of what one would expect from such a harsh and barren environment such as the Desert Route.
The place was large, easily the length of two standard human football fields, thrice the width. Complex machinery worked tirelessly to ensure the simulated environment mimicked the harsh conditions down to the very grains of sand being swept by the ‘wind.’ A plethora of sun baked rocks and cacti dotted the landscape as gentle sand dunes sloped up and down in irregular droves.
However, one ‘cactus’ in particular stood out, at least in Phobos’ eyes. Were she not privy to its true identity, she could have been easily fooled. It stood out in the ‘sun’, swaying ever so gently in the breeze. Though it was cast in shadow, one could witness two eerie green eyes glaring out from underneath the hood of a shawl.
Unwavering, unblinking, the creature’s face was as stiff as the plants it imitated. Long gangly limbs stretched out, reaching upwards into the sky as the mottled skin had a sickly shade of dark green to it. Whether the flesh was of plant or meat, could not be discerned. Sharp teeth jutted from its wide grin, giving an unnerving expression as it waited silently. For what, only the creature knew.
Keeping her eye on the beast, Phobos continued to talk into her recorder. “The specimen started off as a Gothitelle with some heritage of Cacturne in him. But gradual splicing over time has brought out the more submissive Cacturne, allowing greater use of its abilities. It also seems to have brought out its more predatory nature. As of this recording, it has maimed five feeders. The last one, however, has had the misfortune of listening to… Is it seriously doing it again?” The spider huffed in an indignant tone as she could hear loud yodeling coming from the biome below. Searching the biome console before her, she selected the biome speakers. Grabbing a microphone, she nearly yanked the device out of its cord as she yelled into the habitat below.
“HARRY, I KNOW THAT’S YOU, KNOCK IT OFF!” The spider screeched, spooking the creature as it went skittering into one of the few caves. But not before blowing a raspberry at the irritated spider. Phobos let out a loud sigh, shoving the microphone to the side as she slumped back on her seat.
“... Had the misfortune of listening to a certain album containing famous yodelers from 1978. Harry has a tendency to mimic certain vocalizations and songs. It seems he’s taking a liking to- HARRY!” The spider screeched, dropping the recorder in her hand as it fell onto the floor.
