Sans honestly didnāt expect for Gersonās death to strike him the way it did. The skeleton was silent, holding the older one in his arms and staring with remorse- usually grin gone, and eyes darkened. Tears brimmed in the rims of them, but he didnāt bother to raise his sleeves to scrub them away, fingers trembling as he kept them close.
He hadnāt expected to be the one to see it, either. Of all people, heād expect the shopkeeper to die with someone closer- to be with someone who had spent more time with him, to at least know someone who would know the perfectĀ spot to spread his ashes.Ā
āH-Hey,ā Sans stuttered, entirely out of his element. God, he hated this. To see Gerson- who was certainly older, but always full of so much energy and near mischiefĀ like this-Ā āYouāve done an amazing job, yāknow?ā
It hadnāt even occurred to Sans what in the world he would do, but his whole body shook lightly, trying to bite back what tears he had. His words were so insignificant and weak here- they held no importance, no promise, and they were not the words Gerson deserved to hear last. He deserved so much better and Sans felt horrible knowing he could do nothing.
ā...Weāre going to miss ya. Iām sorry I canāt do more for you, but Iāll make sure.. Iāll make sure youāre not forgotten, alright? Thatās the least I could do here.ā
