Just a remark about Charlie Hebdo. Though I always considered their humour of bad taste, they still didn't make fun of the religions themselves, but of the bad things that were done in their names. Basically, you would say they made fun of the people who strayed from religion and their message.
I would agree to this if they didn’t draw the prophet Muhammad multiple times doing insulting things, cos that’s not talking about the people who’ve done the bad things, that’s talking about our prophet who we deem as a holy man of the faith and our guiding light. For them to make insulting cartoons of him is kinda like making fun of the religion. And there’s a thing in Islam where we’re not allowed to depict in drawings or any kinds of visual imagery, the look of God or the prophets so for them to draw the prophet the way they do just gives that extra insult to the faith itself. I understand totally if the jokes they do are towards the people who have strayed from the faith, like the people who commit these acts of terror in the name of God (or so they say), but to make insulting cartoons of a long dead prophet, who never strayed from the faith since he’s the one spreading the faith in the first place, just seems like making fun of the religion.
Now, I’m not saying because of this they deserve what they got, hells naw, those gunmen are horrible people for doing this especially when they go all, “This is to avenge the prophet Muhammad S.A.W” or “I act in the name of God” when Allah would never condone such horrendous act in the first place. No matter how insulting the cartoons were, the retaliation of arms should never happen and people should never die for just mere cartoons. What the prophet taught us are better than that and people who really believe in the faith would not stoop to that low a level.
No, those gunmen acted out of their own hatred and that is not what Islam is. We do not act based on hate or prejudice.
