So now that you’ve eaten, what’s next wagon company?
Logan is gazing at the rapidly descending sun as it nears the horizon directly down the path, skirting the tops of the trees soon in the far distance. Logan sighs.
“Well, I don’t think most of us are tired enough to sleep at this moment, so perhaps we could do something to entertain ourselves?” Logan turns back to everyone, as if silently prompting someone to suggest something.
Patton, not one to be slow on the draw it seems, immediately jumps up from where he and Thomas are still seated, excitedly clapping as he exclaims.
“Oh, we could play games, like hide and seek or tag, something to get us moving after sitting for a while in the wagon!”
Thomas wipes his face with a handkerchief before he speaks, “That might be fun, though everyone would have to be in agreement. Either of those sound like something you want to do?”
Dee scoffs, crossing his arms and leaning back as if Thomas said something ridiculous. This of course grabs Thomas’s attention, and Thomas raises an eyebrow at Dee.
“Anything to say Dee? You can use your mouth you know.” Thomas mirrors Dee, crossing his arms and leaning back just a little.
Dee smirks, voice dripping with sarcasm, “Oh I definitely wasn’t thinking about talking with you with everyone, because you certainly aren’t still essentially a stranger to us. Obviously.”
Thomas’s mouth gapes at the absolute amount of subtle sass coming from that last word as well as the implication of Dee’s statement.
“No need to sass me Sour-Dee, i too have a mouth I can utilize to speak to you, you know.” Thomas surprisingly snarks back, smirking just a little bit.
Dee is vaguely surprised at Thomas’s bite back, but hides it expertly as he glances at the others, as if to say ‘what do you guys think?’
Logan clears his throat. “I for one want to catch up with you Thomas, as you most certainly not the young man you were 20 years ago. I’m with Dee’s proposition.”
Patton purses his lips thinking about something, before he expresses “I think we’re tied two for two, Thomas and I are up for an active game and Logan and Dee are for talking to get to know you Thomas.”
“Are you willing to change your mind, Thomas?” Logan asked, to which made Patton half pout at the possibility of Thomas switching sides.
“Are you willing to change your mind Dee?” Thomas aims a pointed look at Dee, to which Dee remains steadfast.
Patton gets between the two, making a calming gesture.
“Going back and forth like like this isn’t getting us anywhere. It a tie and-” Patton suddenly turns his gaze upwards with excitement.
“The whispers can decide for us! There’s more of them, surely they’ll be a tiebreaker?” Patton bounces on the balls of his feet a little at the idea.
Logan nods, “It would be the most fair if none of us will relent.”
“I’m fine with it too, their certainly the nicest batch of whispers I’ve met, even if they’re also the most confusing.” Thomas smiles lopsidedly.
Everyone looks at Dee, who rolls his eyes and shrugs, “I’m already outvoted on this, so you don’t need my approval.”
Logan places a hand on Dee’s shoulder, but addresses the air, directing his question to the whispers.
“What do you think we should do? Talk with Thomas to get to know him better or do something active like a game?”
Ooooo, you get a choice, talk or play?
Is this truly a narrative changing decision? Likely not, but you’ve been entrusted with the decision, choose wisely.
