The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code's stimulant methylhexaneamine was found in the 32-year-old Poovamma's dope sample collected on February 18 of last year, during the Indian Grand Prix I in Patiala. The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel had only imposed a three-month penalty on her in a June judgement. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) contested the decision of the disciplinary panel, and the ADAP suspended Poovamma for two years. On September 16, the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel, presided over by Abhinav Mukerji, issued an order declaring: "We invalidate the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel's challenged order from June 16, 2022, and as a result, we punish the athlete with a two-year suspension in accordance with Article 10.2.2 of the rules." We further order that all other competition results attained by the athlete as of the sample collection date (18.02.2021) be deemed invalid and subject to all repercussions, including the confiscation of medals, points, and prizes.
