I just thought I'd touch on this: I grew up with straight Christian parents, and I had it ingrained within me from whatever they said and everything I heard as I grew up that I was straight. Nothing was forced on me, but I was fairly observant and I picked up things. I just knew that I had to be straight from what I picked up, from the feel in the air. I grew up with knowledge of only heterosexuality, and once I was about eight, I picked up on what homosexuality and bisexuality was. I accepted both as legitimate sexualities, no question. I just knew they weren't choices same as heterosexuality and that they existed same as being straight did. But I only was an ally since I was eight. I couldn't be anything but straight, I told myself. it's just who I was. This affected me for years, up until I found tumblr. I'd been questioning if I really was straight for years but I just pushed it back. I've found so much since then, especially about sexuality. It took me years to reach a point where I was comfortable with my sexuality after many different thoughts. I've finally found who I am after so long, and just know that if you are in the same position, know you are not alone. It took me a long ol' time to sort myself out, and I'm still trying. Take as long as you need. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Come out to those you feel comfortable to do so with, and only when you are ready. There will be ups and downs, I know, but try and persevere through those hard times. I know I had to. I know you can do the same.
I don't understand the "decal sticker' anon either. You're perfectly up front about the fact that you're creating your own representation, which is historically one of the driving force behind the rise of fanworks anyway, and you aren't breaking anyone's personality to do it. I dunno, knowing that I get a bit of a "there are no x characters because it doesn't matter to the plot! You need a reason for representation!" vibe from that.
"You need a reason for representation" is the biggest load of bullshit. No one ever demands that there be a reason for heterosexual characters. Why do LGTBQA+ characters need some kind of justification for their existence? Fuck that noise! I'm asexual because I am asexual, not because I serve some purpose. That character is asexual to me because I fucking read them that way and there is nothing in their personality, behavior, or other context to suggest otherwise.
This guy at work keeps asking what I find attractive in guys.
And every time
I'm like
"I don't. I don't really do attraction. I'm asexual-aromantic. That's what asexual-aromantic means."
I'm told he asks everyone this sort of thing, but it's getting really obnoxious. ...Especially when he then acts baffled that I don't want to get married at any point.
:C
What do.
