I feel like not a lot of mediums can handle the theme of "vampires are essentially stagnant creatures" because you generally need a plot to be happening, which relies on change and reversals. In something relatively short and self contained, like a novel, it would be very hard to show the audience a vampire trapped in the hell of their own unaltered life simply because it would get boring pretty quick.
But a TV show with several seasons to go actually has the time and space to drive that home and how sad it is and make you wonder if change is actually possible.
