I was totally floored to see the blue ribbon below my creation for Unicorn Art Show 4 at the opening last night. There was so much beautiful work by over 80 artists on display. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten first place for ANYTHING before - maybe the Pinewood Derby? But with this, I can die a happy man, even if I never win another award. Thrilled to be among this fold creators - they work so hard and have made a venue for fresh and completely unique artworks. I consider this piece a labor of love - 3 months in the making, and I hope it speaks clearly. Fantasy is not strictly owned by cuteness, sweetness or magic - but in fact, demands to be taken seriously. As seriously as any other genre or form. The Unicorn is not a fickle symbol or childish ideation - but in fact, it represents a deep desire to be understood and reconciled. Myth speaks about what we long for, how we fail and born again.
