Kupka Oil on Canvas, 20x24 inches, 2013 František Kupka was a Czech painter and a pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement and Orphic Cubism (Orphism). Kupka's abstract works arose from a base of realism, but later evolved into pure abstract art. Kupka’s self portrait in yellow scale is one of my favorites so I had to reimagine it in polygons. People ask me all the trine why/how I make the color and angle choices I do. I am after imperfection in the structure rather than creating something perfect which is so easy to do digitally. Also, I want a peak shift quality to the color choices creating a heightened sense of reality and finally an equal dissonance to the work so you understanding was made my a human hand.
