I'm ending 2017 on a high note! My new documentary film In This Family has just been officially selected for the Pride Film Festival in Chicago, Illinois! My documentary is scheduled to screen in April 2018.

Making a documentary about my childhood was such an emotionally demanding experience. Thank you so much to my talented crew members Victoria Bergqvist, Asem Nurlanova, and Scott Powers. Special thanks to Louise Toledo and Motzie Dapul for helping me gather childhood photos, to Aliyya Sawadjaan for writing the synopsis for my promotional material, and to Dorothy Guya for this amazing poster. And of course, thank you to my family.

New York Film Academy — Master of Fine Arts in Documentary (August 2017)

After piles of paperwork and a long, emotionally draining process, I can finally reveal what I've secretly been working on for a year now…

I was accepted into the New York Film Academy! I will be taking the Master of Fine Arts in Documentary at NYFA’s Los Angeles campus, right by Warner Brothers Studios and Universal Studios. I just got my Student Visa approved. I will be leaving the Philippines in early September. See you all again in two years! And just to settle any confusions: My campus will be in Los Angeles! It's the only campus that offers the MFA in Documentary.

I want to extend my biggest thank you to Dr. Ladrido and Dr. Valbuena of the ADMU Communication Department and Dean Aldaba of the ADMU School of Social Sciences for personally writing my recommendation letters! Maybe I can teach Documentary Film in the Ateneo someday?

To Altus Digital Capital, don't worry, you still have a couple of weeks left with me! I will truly miss my Creatives family: Rowel, Zinman, Abi, Francess, Erri, and even Queen Dittle.

To the YouTube community, now I can explain why Tita Lily and Her Son has not been posting new episodes recently. We have been really busy sorting all the academic documents; and yes, this unfortunately means that our show will not be creating any new episodes anytime soon. Nonetheless, I want to thank everybody who has supported and subscribed to our show, and I truly hope that you all can carry on the family values that my mother and I imparted.

To my dear friends, thank you for always supporting my passion for non-fiction production. Let's all continue to cheer each other on! And despedida, please! Special shoutout to Reg Geli for taking the time during her Los Angeles vacation to check out my potential apartments!

And most importantly, to my family, thank you so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you.

An ancient philosopher by the name of Moana once said, "If I go, there's just no telling how far I'll go." I am nervous to begin this new adventure, but the thrill that I feel whenever I make a documentary film is something that I need to chase.

My latest documentary, The Big Fans, has just been officiall selected into the 5th Cebu International Film Festival. Doing research for this documentary — with the help of the brilliant Dr. Maitel Ladrido — was an extensive process and I am so glad to finally showcase my work. Here is a quick synopsis:

The Big Fans exposes the secrets behind the hit Philippine reality show Pinoy Big Brother. Since it began airing in 2005, Pinoy Big Brother instantly clicked with the Filipino masses, forming the largest television fandom in the country. Attracting advertisers and transforming ordinary people into money-making celebrities, Pinoy Big Brother has undoubtedly become a commodity in Philippine television.

But with the rise of other local television shows and the controversies surrounding the reality show’s casting process, the Pinoy Big Brother fandom began to die. The Big Fans takes a look into the lives of the fans that have survived: Elnie Ditchon, Sarah Bautista, and Alseph Joves continue to share a tight friendship after only meeting at the show’s auditions; Tonton Papa has auditioned for the show six times; Jhun Silvestre has auditioned for the show thirteen times. What does it really take to be a big fan of a reality show? At what point do these big fans lose their loyalty? From exploring the lives of these big fans to exposing the controversial casting process, The Big Fans tackles what a reality show means to a Filipino.

What an inspiring experience it was to represent the Ateneo de Manila University once again for ABS-CBN's Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs! I would personally like to thank our talented Ateneo team—Producers Louise Toledo and Alyssa Leong, Creative Director Dorothy Guya, and Cinematographers Joshy Pascual and Richard Webb—for the blood, sweat, and tears that went into creating this music video. I definitely developed a greater appreciation for dance because of this project. Enjoy!
