I grew up in the town where Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” took place. Today, half the town (literally) has been renamed Sleepy Hollow because of the tourism aspect, but there’s always been a local pride about the literary connection. Back in the day, I went to Sleepy Hollow High School (SHHS) where our football team was the Headless Horsemen (who played like they had no heads, but that’s another story). So imagine my surprise when I was record hunting recently and discovered there was an early 1970s band called Sleepy Hollow? They were on Artie Ripp’s Family Productions label—the same outfit that discovered Billy Joel and put out his debut, Cold Spring Harbor, accidentally sped up so that he sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks in singer/songwriter mode. I was definitely curious to hear this—but not 20 bucks worth of curious, so I just took a photo and put it back. Anyone know what it sounds like?
