Thinkinâ of the C-Cube discourse lol Why is the foamâs colour mentioned? (specifically, itâs blue in both versions, regardless of the Cubeâs colour.)
I need to speak to Artemis about his colouration choices. Make the foam... idk grey or something. CONTRAST, ARTY!
So instead of me continuing the dreaded âwhat colour is the cube?â argument (which ended like, a year ago), I propose another, more agreeable one:
WHY, if the Cube was blue, would the foam also be blue?
Artemis Fowl II, genius, has absolutely no grasp on how much colour would help his flair for dramatics. If I were Spiro, I would have laughed at the concept of a bright red box surrounded by blue foam. I would have laughed at it if it were blue as well, just for the sheer fact that itâs blue-on-blue. You wouldnât be able to see it properly, and it would look tacky!Â
This boy, with a flair for the dramatics, has absolutely no idea that he would make my inner artist cringe at this one passing line on page ten of the book.
Now, if it were red/grey, or red/black, or blue/grey or whatever the Cubeâs colour is, then Iâd be happy with it all. But itâs red/blue, (or blue/blue) so Iâm not happy with it all.Â
So, a note: Artemis doesnât wear coloured ties. But if he did, itâs probably a red tie with a blue shirt/jacket.
And thatâs terrible.
Powered Armour
Fairies are on average smaller than Humans, and while their proportionate strength is better, they still end up being weaker thanks to the sheer size disparity. As usual, technology can compensate. Powered strength assist suits are still in experimental stages in Human hands, hamstrung by power requirements and range issues, but Fairy tech has managed to go beyond those problems. These suits come in different classes.Â
Industrial suits are merely exoskeletons, designed to take weight far better than any unassisted organic. They can lift crates and materials and pull enormous loads in a warehouse or factory setting. They are generally unprotected, although some models come with plating to defend against accidents. They are an industry standard, built by several competing companies. Criminal elements have been known to attempt to modify industrial suits for their own use through the addition of improvised armour welded to their frames.Â
Newer model LEP suits have a miniaturised version of the tech that only activates when necessary in order to save power and heat, making them part of the Semi-Powered class. When the suit detects that the operator is trying to lift a heavy load, it will automatically brace itself to take the strain. It can also be used to allow for much stronger blows in combat situations, or to absorb the force of attacks.
Heavier stuff can be found in the Riot Suppression/Battle suits, which are hulking devices that effectively make a LEP officer into a walking tank. They use modular weapons hardpoints to mount Neutrino blasters, missile launchers, particle beams, and mass accelerating Multi Munitions Launchers. These things are strong enough to kick cars around and are built to take punishment without batting an eye. Firebombs merely scorch the paint a little. Bullets bounce off or just get stuck. Energy rounds are absorbed. Riot suits are the equivalent of a mobile barricade, and one that can shoot back, no less. One battlesuit operator was able to take on a Troll in close quarters without using his weapons, due to them being damaged. This feat only served to elevate Butlerâs takedown of a similar Troll in many officersâ eyes, as he had done it without augmented strength or modern armour.Â
There are rumours of âSuper Heavy Infantryâ suits undergoing development and testing in the LEPâs secretive science wing. Alleged leaks describe these as being a cross between an armour suit and a walker. There has been no official response regarding such technology.Â
Powered armour can move surprisingly fast, despite their sheer size. This is due to how they support their own weight while also moving quickly. If anything, someone wearing a suit could sprint for longer than someone without one. Battlesuits are often used as âpack mulesâ for other officers, carrying excess gear with no signs of difficulty.
Heavily compressed night vision footage of Butlerâs engagement with Retrieval One during the opening phase of the Fowl Siege. In retrospect, closing to melee range with someone twice your size is a poor idea.
The Council Guard
The Legislative Council and the Security Council are both based out of Palace Square in Haven City, which is a well-defended area, owing to the sheer political value of it. The Council Guard is charged with defending the square and its inhabitants, albeit in a mostly ceremonial position.
The Guard is as old an organisation as the Council itself. Clad in distinctive chromed armour that mimics a medieval style, they are seen wielding impressive broadswords that are equipped with Mag-Blade technology, which sheath the swords in rapidly alternating magnetic fields in order to cut through objects with utmost ease. They also carry shields for use with these swords or their compact Neutrino blasters, made of highly resistant materials that can deflect energy fire and kinetic impacts. Guards also mount special Neutrino weapons implanted into their gauntlets, meaning that they are never truly unarmed.
Guardsman armour is just as durable and advanced as standard LEP armour, but it has been modified for aesthetic purposes, giving it the appearance of a knight of the old kings. Captains of each guard unit are identified with the use of intricate golden patterns, and no one has the exact same design. Each guard wears a side-cape emblazoned with the Councilâs signature symbol, which is also seen adorning their shields.Â
Council Guards are drawn from the best units in the LEP and are rotated out after several years. They are granted advanced riot suppression and counter-terror training, as well as instruction in how to best use their swords in several kinds of combat situation. Their training rooms are often found littered with sliced up droid parts, at least before the scrap is sent off to be reconstituted. Every month, Guards will spar in the middle of the Square, showing off their skills and worth in defending the Council. One thing is certain when it comes to them: there are no better men in the art of the swordfight.Â

Mulch saves the day again...
Mulch: Looks like I got here just in time!
Holly: Ugh, what do you mean âjust in timeâ?
Mulch: You were in *very* big trouble!
Artemis: Trouble? We were simply searching for Opal Koboi.
Holly: Yeah, we had the situation well under control.
Mulch: Oh, I see. So, which part of situation did you have under control? Was it the blocked entrance, the poison gas, or that troll behind you?
Holly: Troll?!
Artemis: Oh, you mean the one thatâs âtoo far away to worry aboutâ?
(Troll roars)
Fowl Industries
âThere is no Fowl Industries.â
âThere will be.â
While the Fowl family owned a number of legitimate businesses (usually as cover for illegitimate ones), they never had a unified, overarching corporation. Artemis Fowl II sought to change that. He founded Fowl Industries with the intention of selling his technology, whether through production of goods or the licensing of certain designs to others.Â
Nominally, Fowl Industries runs under the control of Artemis Senior, as despite it being the younger Fowlâs concept, he is too young to legally operate it. Seniorâs guiding hand is in turn guided by Juniorâs, whose genius and unrelenting nature enables him to take on competitors with major efficiency.Â
Fowl Industries has a specialisation towards the design and production of electronic devices, ranging from compact-yet-powerful smartphones to full scale generators. Several militaries and governments contract off the company for their more advanced needs, leaving many wondering about just how this Irish start-up is managing to do so much.
Part of the answer lies in Fairy technology. Artemis, through espionage, outright theft, or even gifts, has gained access to quite a few bits of advanced tech. However, he has an understanding with the LEP to avoid the release of the more powerful stuff, after the C-Cube Incident caused a major situation. Artemis insists that improving Humanityâs technological prowess would result in less damage to the environment and reduce resource problems. In response, authorisation has been given to reverse engineer the less advanced environmental reclamation technologies, as making a massive jump in advancement too quickly would draw suspicion.Â
Fowl Industries has several subsidy companies at its disposal, specialising in fields like robotics, advanced medical research, environmental protection, energy development, and aerospace engineering. They employ quite a few people of all trades, from electricians to coders to test pilots. Fowl Industries has a reputation for delivering results, no matter the task.
These subsidies go by names like Origin Aerospace and Lightbringer Energy Networking, which have quickly become known the world over as some of the most advanced companies in their fields. Larger groups like Lockheed-Martin and Boeing have been left scrambling to catch up to Originâs powerful aircraft, while Lightbringer has gone far in getting clean and efficient energy production to where it is needed most. Numerous awards and contracts continue to be given out, and it seems that nothing can stop Fowl Industries from rising further.
Slow motion footage of ballistic testing against newly developed NanoCrystalline Compound armour plating. It performed beyond all expectations, taking a hit from a Human-made 7.62 rifle bullet with little trouble. Heavier rounds were also unable to penetrate fully, showing that only powerful explosives or cannon ammunition would work against a properly equipped LEP officer, effectively removing the threat of Human weapons in criminal hands. The Lower Elements Security Council chose to engage full scale production of the armour after seeing the results of this test and others regarding other types of weaponry, like lasers and plasma casters. The Council was taking no chances with further encounters against hostile Humans or criminal elements.
NanoCrystalline Compound armour would also be used on vehicles and fortifications, effectively forming the backbone of LEP protective technology, along with the Cyclonic Shields pioneered on the also-new Spitfire Assault Fighter. The makeup of the compound is still classified.
