One day I hope shane gets to enjoy the company of other non-white autistic queer people. People who can understand and relate to his stuggle. People who can give him ways to cope, and make him feel like he's not a creature pretending to be human.
While shane loves hayden & rose, and they love him, he also deserves friends who he does not have to explain his complex stuggles to, especially when considering the intersection between race, gender, sexuality, & neurodiversity. (While I hope for shane that they would educate themselves, and I believe rose would be more knowledgeable about what shane is facing, good intentions do not replace effort, research and knowledge. Cultural safety requires knowledge & understanding of the people you are trying to include. Cultural safety is not created though good intentions and well wishes. No matter how much they love shane, he deserves a space where he does not have to explain himself)
I also have thoughts about how shane deserves to be taught about the world of queerness with kindness and understanding. The post-outing shangst of being disconnected from the community he now represents. He was never given the chance to be a baby gay in private. He deserves the chance to enjoy his queerness without shame and pressure.
