On the night of August 23, to celebrate Day of the National Flag and Independence Day of Ukraine the ARTEFACT project made a light installation of the flag of Ukraine at the object âČâČ Arc âČâČ (New Safe Confinement), which is the largest moving facility in the world, erected over the destroyed reactor of the 4th energy block Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Final model shape for the jug. When thinking about trying to update the mug and make it is robust as possible, I looked at the Vipp pedal bin. It has a metal body and rubber base, this means it won't slip and the metal is protected. I want to apply this to my jug. model 1. the symmetrical shape, model 2. the same jug but with a sloped edge at the top, for less splash back when you put it down, and taken from the clay models I previously made.Â
...the wolf is more robust, angular and has a winder spout for more aggressive pouring and 3 handles for more control. I picture this being used in a public place, a construction site or in a restaurant.Â
...the dog is more organic, hand held and personal, it has a smaller spout for slower pouring. I picture this jug being used in the home.Â

A lot of sketches for this week, it was really really hard to try and create products from the artefacts I found. Usually you start with a concept of a problem and try and fix it with a design, here were working backwards, finding things that have already been made and trying to create from them. They could be anything which is both good and bad, however I found it very hard as I felt like I was forcing out ideas. It was hard to get away from what the material the artefact is made from, as that influences you a lot, especially if the artefact is quite well made and not broken well enough, its hard to imagine it in a new way.Â
From here I REALLY want to work on my sketching skills they are no way professional enough for what id like to see, and I want to improve my ideas too. I will also do a bit more brainstorming around each product, but I want to keep way from clique objects or objects that don't really involve the artefact at all.Â
I was heavily inspired by archeologists and how they collect they're data. I wanted to make my data collection equally as thorough, or else whats the point?
Each artefact has a number, a name, time and location of discovery, coordinates, brief description and photographs showing the area the artefact was found to give an indication of the kind of environment its from. There are also line drawings that show the dimensions and basic shape from two angles of each of the artefacts.Â
This cataloging enables me to gain a fuller understanding of the object in the moment and place it was found.Â
The Artefact Project was born after I read Bradburyâs Fahrenheit 451 -- I wanted a story based on books and knowledge and the importance of culture. Itâs set in our world, in a not-so-far dystopian future (how original) where little clandestine hubs of culture were formed after a huge political overturn that banned and burnt all books and other forms of knowledge. Iâm at a loss to explain the gist of my story rn so Iâll continue in French and translate when Iâm able!
