I love the way charcoal interacts with water here, it reminds me of aquatint printmaking. This current "Watermarks" watercolor series harkens back to my experience of using wind, puddles, paper, and ink outside in an industrial parking lot on a chilly early spring day during my time at RISD. Here I am melding abstract painting with traditional photographic darkroom processes. I use watercolor to soak on the paper, in a way similar to using trays of photo developer, to slowly capture and make spontaneous, organic forms appear. .
