“Please, Sir, I Want Some More”
Tomorrow night Wednesday December 9th is the christmas episodes of Arrow, but it is the 4th night of Channukah and I’m worried we will get very little or no Jewish Felicity.
It seems and feels like to me the more popular Felicity Smoak gets the less of her Jewishness we see. Felicity saying “I’m Jewish” in season 1 to Oliver telling her “Merry X-mas” was incredibly monumental for Jews.
We see her debate weather to say anything and then decide to take the risk while giving Oliver a look that just dares him to give her shit about it. Cause every Jew has been in her shoes at one point or another.
Do I say I’m Jewish? Do I take that risk? Will I get shit for this? Will I get harassed at work now? Will things get really difficult for me now because now they know I’m Jewish?
She also runs the risk here because Oliver is not only her boss, but a member of the Queen family. Felicity knows that he turns out to be an antisemite she will have no one to go too because of how powerful Oliver is. If it goes south she is totally fucked.
Honestly, I don’t think we would have gotten this statement of Jewishness in any other season because at the time this happened Felicity was still a guest character and not super popular.
I also worry now that she and Oliver are canon that that will also contribute to less of Jewish Felicity. Which is really frustrating since I really enjoy Olicity and it is like one of the few het ships I actually ship.
I really would have loved to gotten more of Felicity Jewishness then the once or twice a season mention, but instead we have gotten less of it. We have gotten not only less, but ones that are really easy for goyim (gentiles) to over look and ignore.
I want more then once or twice a season and I want more impact and meaning. I want people to have no choice, but to know that Felicity Smoak is a Jew.
So if anyone Jew or not has twitter (I do not) and would like to tweet more Jewish Felicity at the cast and crew please do because I can’t remember the last time I not only had a Jewish character flat out state they are Jewish, but also to have such a bad-ass female Jewish character.
Please reblog this and please if you can tweet #MoreJewishFelicty to the cast and crew of Arrow because I am desperate for whatever little representation I can especially when it is such positive representation.
Happy Channukah and thank you.
