While you had been living with Springman for only a couple of months now as his lover, you found yourself falling in love with him more and more, bit by bit. When he as bashfully asked you out (something you had found adorable to no end), you accepted happily, and there began your relationship with ARMS fighter Springman, as he grinned happily and hugged you tight.
When you two had saved up enough dough to move into a tiny apartment together, you happily moved out of your parents place in favor of living with your lover. You two slept in the same bed, where he would snore at night and you’d giggle groggily when it woke you up in the middle of the night.
Life was normal. Springman fought in ARMS matches, went to the gym, and ate pizza, and you worked, cheered him on in the fights, and went to the gym with him, because, to be honest, you were starting to see that gut from so many pizza nights with him.
You two were happy together. And there wasn’t anything else you could ever ask for. With Springman winning matches and getting sponsorships as the face of his gym, you two were financially stable and secured, monthly checks more than enough to cover the costs of the month, including rent, utilities, and Springman’s pizza addiction. You two didn’t have to worry about financial aspects of living together. Spending time together was also on your minds, whether it be cuddling while watching movies (and of course, eating pizza), working out at the gym together, or going out for a night in the town, your relationship was solid, and you didn’t have to worry about anything.
It all seemed perfect, until you began to get a pain in your right side, near your lower abdomen.
You brushed it off as nothing. Probably pushed myself too hard at the gym the other day, you thought when the pain suddenly came during one of Springman’s matches. You shrugged it off and continued to cheer for him, and he won the match.
The pain didn’t go away.
It continued to build more and more, to the point where you were starting to think, deep in your mind, something was wrong. But still, you thought of it as nothing more than pushing yourself at the gym too hard, or eating too much pizza.
But one day, at the gym, while lifting weights, the pain was too much, and a sudden stab of it made you cry out and nearly drop your weights.
“S-Spring!” You cried out, sitting up and holding your right side, taking sharp inhales, and panting, “M-my side… it.. Hurts so bad…”
Springman noticed you were in pain, stopped talking to his manager, and rushed over to you. “Y/N! What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
“S-side… hurts… so badly… c-can’t move….” You manage to pant out, and then hiss as another pain stabs you. “C-call an ambulance…”
Springman, unusually panicked, gives you a quick kiss on your forehead, and then calls out “Ambulance! Ambulance!”
As he leaves, you’re suddenly unable to sit up, and you vomit the eggs and toast you had for breakfast that morning, and Springman cries out worriedly as he and a staff member rush over to you.
“D-don’t worry, babe. Ambulance is on it’s way.” Strong man that he was, le’s able to lift you easily and cradle you in his arms, humming, trying to calm you, but it’s out of tune and panic is leaking into his voice, so you giggle weakly, smiling at him.
“B-babe… don’t worry. Please just hang on,” he whispers as your eyes begin to get heavy.
“Spring…” you whimper. “I love you.. Don’t leave….”
“Never in a million years,” He says, kissing your forehead. “I’ll always be here for ya.”
As your eyes begin to close, you hear someone come into the gym and yell, “Stretcher!”
Your eyes open fully, and you find yourself hit in the face with the smell of sterilization. Your room is white with bright lights, white walls, and a bed you’re lying in. There’s an IV in your arm and the steady beeps of monitors all around you.
Out in the hall, you see Springman talking to a man in a white lab coat and glasses, presumably explaining what’s wrong with you and how to fix it. When he looks at you and sees you’re awake, he smiles and walks into the room. “Ah, I see our guest is awake,” he says, holding a clipboard. “Glad to see you’re ok, Y/N. My name is Doctor Smith. I’ll be helping you today.”
“Doctor… what’s wrong with me?” you croak.
“Your appendix is about to rupture. You have appendicitis. If it’s not removed, it’ll rupture, and it will cause sepsis, which is very bad. So we need to have surgery done ASAP to remove it. Are you ok with that?”
“Y-yes! Of course… but.. I’m afraid.”
“Oh, there’s no need to worry. There’s a near 100 survival rate. And with someone as fit as you are, it’s very unlikely you’ll die during surgery.”
Reassured, you lean back. “Okay. Whenever you’re ready… I am. Doctor Smith, please schedule the next appointment available...”
“Yes. Seems like our next one is available in the morning…” He looks at his papers. “I’ll go talk to the surgeon, then. I’ll give you two some privacy.”
Springman grins as the doctor leaves. “Babe, I know you’ll be okay! There’s no need to worry! I’ll be there for ya every single step of the way!”
You smile at Spring’s positivity and attitude. “Oh, Spring… Always so optimistic.”
He grins even bigger. “Hells yeah! What’s the use of worrying? Ya just need to recover for a bit afterwards.” He sweeps back your messy bangs and kisses your forehead lightly. “Don’t worry… I’m always here for ya.”
You smile. Oh, Spring…
“Come here,” You say as you scooch over to make room. “And cuddle me.”
He gladly obliges, and nestles himself in your bed, as you make yourself comfortable on his chest as he wraps his springy arms around you. You always loved them. They made you feel so warm and safe.
He looks at you and blushes. “I love ya, Y/N.”
You smile and giggle. “Say it again.”
“I love ya.”
“Again…” You bury your face in his chest, where you can hear his heart racing.
“I love ya, Y/N. I’ll always love ya, now and forever. You’re so..rad.”
You laugh, pulling yourself away and looking your lover in the eye.
“I love you too, Spring. And I know the surgery will go all right.”

After the surgery, which was successful, you recuperated in the apartment, drinking chicken broth Spring spoon fed to you, sleeping, and doing simple exercises in the bed, such as arm curles. Surprisingly, Spring turned down matches and skipped gym meetings to take care of you, telling you about matches he had fought in before he met you and just watching movies with you.
One night, as you were watching a movie, he suddenly held you tight, and kissed your lips. His kisses were always something you looked forward to. Soft and gentle. Loving.
“I love ya, Y/N,” He said bashfully as he pulled away.
You look at him. Springman, the love of your life. And you’d always be together.

Drew a bit more on the monster/mutant Springman AU thingie last night.
Figure it would have kind of happened in phases. was the bottom arms first, then the bulking up more, then the top set, and idk if maybe even other stuff from there... still working out design things. Generally the ARMS stuff seems to happen only while the host is asleep/unconscious, but these likely happened while he was up and about, which is a bit horrific (tho idk if he stayed conscious during or after considering...).
He would have stayed positive initially with just the 4 arms. Looks more like Spider Spring lol. It was shocking and quite a drastic life change, but he was eventually adjusting and learning to accept that this just may be how things are now. ... And then it just got worse. Hope kind of took a crash for him and seeing himself as a freak and terrified of what else might happen.
Other ARMS people suddenly terrified if the same could happen to them or if it could spread. He would end up going to the labs to be studied and put in quarantine until they were sure it was something that wouldn’t somehow infect others as well. Suddenly they’re wishing they really knew more about this whole ARMS thing and how to fix effects if they can...
When he’s going through all that tho, I’m sure all the other fighters would be very concerned and supportive of him and hoping he’ll be better one day to join them again. Twintelle donating a bunch of money toward the research. Ribbon Girl and Max Brass getting together the others to visit him in the lab bringing lots of pizza. Even the more reserved fighters would send him get well cards.
Helix would just kind of hang around and just be glad to have a roomie, while Spring Man starts questioning his sanity for eventually mostly understanding Helix’s form of communicational squeaks and screeches.
