β£ Canon EOS 250D | 35mm | 1/1000s | f/8 | ISO 100β£ Taken on 20/09/2020.β£ β£ Tracing a slow arc southwest ofΒ Genoa, the 'Riviera di Ponente' (Coast of the Sunset), is Liguriaβs most built-up stretch, home to practical, unpretentious resorts, functional towns and the occasional attractive medieval quarter.β£ β£ The beaches are sandy and the prices relatively low, making it a popular holiday spot for Italian families. And the further west you go, the sandier and (bizarrely) quieter the beaches get.β£ β£ Granted, it's quite common in Italy to find private beach areas known as 'stabilimenti' that can be used for a day fee. But as I was walking along a palm-lined promenade from Arma di Taggia to San Remo, I wasn't expecting to find a deserted beach on what was a hotter-than-usual day in September. I had to rub my eyes hard to believe what I was seeing: only one person enjoying his last soak in the sun. In the UK, this sandy stretch of seashore would be packed in no time, fee or no fee! Especially as this seaside resort is just a couple of kilometres from 'the city of flowers' that is San Remo.β£ β£ But then this strange phenomenon could be one of Italy's many unwritten rules in the sense that it generally isn't well-looked upon to go for a dip outside the main tourist monthsβjust as it isn't acceptable to order pineapple on pizza!β£ β£ ππΌπ ππΌ π΄π²π ππ΅π²πΏπ²:β£ β£ You can get to Arma di Taggia by train from Sanremo, Imperia, Savona and Genova; but the station is a fair distance from the beachfront, so you'll need to take a bus ('Rivieratrasporti') from outside the railway station.β£ β£ If you're already in the Imperia province, there's no need to take a train to Arma di Taggia.
