-7:30 A.M.-
âGood morning, Miss Blainey.â Arkin said with a smile.
âWell, good morninâ to you too.â said Miss Blainey back to the boy.
It was a Saturday morning, no class for the students, but an opportunity for the quidditch players to train themselves in the upcoming matchâespecially towards the Ravenclaws and the Slytherins.
âAre you ready for today, Mr. Croft?â Miss Blainey asked, hinting that a handful of quidditch players will visit the Hospital Wing today.
âI am.â nodding eagerly as Miss Blainey got the keys for the hospital wing and opened the doors.
-8:30 A.M.-
Arkin just finished tidying up the beds for the patients when a second year and first year Hufflepuffs came. Both of them were still in their golden yellow striped pyjamas, the second year was carefully guiding the first year, and as Arkin watched them closely, the first yearâs forehead had a hint of red as if he fell flat on the floor.
Arkin quickly rushed towards the two Hufflepuff boys.
âHi, what happened here?â masking his worried face with a smile which worked because the face of the second year calmed down.
âHello, uh, Greg here fell flat down the hallway because one of the Slytherins hexed him.â
âI swear, Tom is doing this on purpose because I got sorted into Hufflepuff.â said the kid named Greg, his face frowning.
âOh, so who is this Tom, if I may ask?â
âHis twin brother-â
âDonât tell him, Shanâ
âI- uh⊠Sorry.â The second year apologised.
âWell, donât let Tom get to you okay? There are many great things that the Hufflepuff has achieved, but we tend not to be boastful, so donât be embarrassed by the house you are sorted in, okay?â he said, looking towards Greg with a warm and soft reassuring smile.
Gregâs mood lighten up a bit
âNow, letâs tend you up shall we.â
-11:00 A.M.-
The past few hours were a bit okay for Arkin, he talked to Greg which surprised him because Greg opened up to himâthe poor boy. After that he tended to students who had colds and flu, they were coughing and sneezing a lotâArkin wore a protective charm to be safe. He also tended three quidditch players, the first player had a bludger hit his right shoulder, the second player had his ankle sprained, and the third player got her hair stuck in the snitchâs wings. They were ready to cut the girls hair, but good things Miss Blainey stepped in to untangle the disaster.
âMiss Blainey, Iâm gonna take my lunch early.â yelled Arkin across the room for Miss Blainey and 5 other patients to hear him.
âOkay, Dear. Donât be late when coming back.â Miss Blainey yelled back.
âI wonât.â and Arkin left the hospital wing.
-11.30 A.M.-
Arkin and Tina can be found sitting at one of the Hufflepuffs table in the Great Hall. Tina usually seats on the Hufflepuffs table whenever she wants to talk to her friend Arkin, which is all the time, and the Hufflepuffs donât mind.
âSo I just heard that one of the Slytherin students lost their Uncle.â Tina whispered towards Arkin.
Arkin was taken aback because of how Tina started the conversation. âWhat?!â
âYeah, I heard someone talking about it in our common room, it was a fifth year..?â she wasnât sure who she heard it from.
Arkin was relieved. âSo, itâs just a rumour?â
âYeah⊠I supposeâŠâ
âThank Merlinâs beard, itâd be cruel to lose an Uncle and spread it like rumours here in Hogwarts.â
âAnyway, moving on from that topic, what happened in the Hospital wing today?â she said, shifting the topic
âOh yeah, I forgot to tell you.â he then told Tina about the two Hufflepuff boys, the cold and flus, and the quidditch player.
âMiss Blainey is expecting more quidditch players to end up in the hospital wing because of the upcoming match.â Arkin finished sharing to Tina what happened earlier.
âWow, how I wish I was there with you today.â regret on her face. âMiss Scribner was just making me fetch unreturned books, I hate it when I get assigned with that.â
âWhy donât you tell her you donât want that?â
âWell, itâs only fair because we have rotations of the things we are assigned, however, Iâm thinking that whenever itâs my time to fetch unreturned books, Iâll go help in the Hospital Wing.â Making her signature evil-plan face.
âWell, I think Miss Scribner will notice wonât she?â Arkin destroyed her plan as quickly as possible for her to test it.
âUghhhh, youâre right.â
âWhy donât you just⊠I donât know, quit working in the libra-â before Arkin could finish, he was interrupted.
âAnd lose access to every book in there? Iâd rather collect thousands of unreturned books than quitting.â
Their conversation lasted long, but not long enough to forget that they have to eat lunch and not long enough to forget that Arkin must not be late to the Hospital Wing.
-4:30 P.M.-
Arkinâs shift was almost done for the day. He encountered a lot of quidditch players going to the Hospital Wing, a lot of them came because of minor injuries, but some came with major injuries. Of course there are also students who came because of a failed potions experiment, some are hex-victims, and some are plant-victims. Mostly, they were treated by Arkin and Miss Blainey.
Arkin was sitting at an empty patient bed to catch his breath when two students came in. It was Thomas and Deanâa Ravenclaw.
âArkin!â beamed Thomas. âHi, uh, Dean passed out, I donât know why, but we were both talking about astrology when suddenly he collapsed.â
âOkay, letâs put him on one of the empty beds. Come.â as both of them got Dean onto a near empty bed.
Arkin made a few quick basic checks and Miss Blainey made diagnostics.
âDean just fainted because heâs tired. Do you have any idea why, Mr. Thorn?â She asked, looking directly at Thomas.
âWell, I think heâs a bit stressed out for our Potions tests, heâs not that good with potions.â
With that, Miss Blainey nodded at the two of us and left to do something.
Arkin was ready to go too, but he was stopped when Thomas said something.
âWow, did not know that one of our prefects is working at the Hospital Wing.â Thomas teased. âWhen did you start anyway?â
âJust the start of this school year, and Iâm Miss Blaineyâs assistant.â Arkin said with a smile on his face.
âWell, I sure do hope itâs not stressing you because your hairâŠâ he waves his arms around Arkinâs hair, âis kind of messed up.â
âYouâre joking?â Arkin scoffed playfully.
âIâm not.â
âSeriously?â
Thomas nodded. âHere let me help you.â and he fixed Arkinâs hair.
It took Thomas a moment to fix Arkinâs hair, he had to remember what it looked like.
âAnd⊠there, fixed.â he beamed.
âThanks.â Arkin smiled
âCan I ask you a question?â
âWhat is it?â
âCan I volunteer here in the Hospital Wing? Someone needs to look out for you.â
âWhat??â
âJust kidding!â Thomas laughed at his own joke. âWhat I mean is, can I volunteer to work here in the hospital wing, you know, two heads are better than one. And itâll be a lot faster.â
âWait, let me ask Miss Blainey.â and Arkin went to Miss Blainey to ask if itâs okay for Thomas to volunteer to work here in the hospital wing.
âWell, I would be delighted for Mr. Thorn to volunteer here.â Miss Blainey said happily. âNow, just hand him these papers to sign and this badge.â
Arkin grabbed the papers and badge that had the word "volunteer" engraved on it. He walked back towards Thomas and handed him the papers and badge.
âMiss Blainey said you have to sign these papers, and whenever youâre here you should put on your badge.â Arkin instructed.
âHey, we are now matching badges.â Thomas excitedly said it and motions towards mine and his badge.
âYes, orientation starts tomorrow at 7 A.M. so you would know the basics.â
âWhy not now?â Thomas had a disappointed face.
âBecause itâs 5 P.M. already and thatâs where my shift ends.â with a tired smile, Arkin said.
âOh okay!â Thomas' face was replaced with excitement again. âCanât wait for tomorrow.

Narrator: Saturdays, a day that most students finish their schoolworks, a time for others to play, or just do nothing. But for Arkin, this kind of day is for finishing his prefect duty.
Knocking on the door
Arkin: Come in!
Arkin: Oh, it's you, Sandrow. What can I do for you?
Sandrow: I was just checking on you. Wait, are you doing something?
Arkin: Yeah, just working on this document that Professor Black told us to work on.
Sandrow: You know, that thing is not due till next week, right?
Arkin: Yeah, I know, but what if I mess this document up? What will he think of me? Will he take my prefect status?
Sandrow: Okay. Wow. you are overthinking things.
Arkin: Sorry, force of habit.
Sandrow: You know what? Letâs go out. You need to take your head off with paperwork for today, thatâs bad for you. Mentioning that today is a saturday, letâs have some fun.
Arkin: But-
Sandrow: Apapapap! No buts.
Arkin: Ugh⊠FineâŠ
Sandrow: Yes! Letâs go!
â
Arkin: What are we doing here at Hogsmeade?
Sandrow: For today's adventure, we are trying all the shops in Hogsmeade.
Arkin: Oh for Merlin's sakeâŠ
â
Sandrow: For our first stop, The Three Broomsticks! We are drinking one butterbeer here.
Arkin: I donât drink butterbeers.
Sandrow: Just try it, youâre gonna love it.
â
Sandrow: For our second stop, the Honeydukes.
Arkin: Okay, I was actually craving sweets.
â
Sandrow: Next stop is this tea shop.
Arkin: Madam Puddifootâs Tea Shop?
Sandrow: There is this one drink in there that I really love the taste.
â
Narrator: And Sandrow kept showing Arkin the best shops in the Hogsmeade. Both of them enjoyed themselves. Arkin was having fun for a long time, while Sandrow was delighted knowing Arkin was doing something other than paperworks.Â
â
Arkin: Today was fun.
Sandrow: Yeah, good thing you had fun instead of rotting yourself doing some prefect duties.
Arkin: How do you do it?
Sandrow: How do I do what?
Arkin: How can you do this kind of thing, while not worrying about your duties as a prefect?
Sandrow: I⊠Donât know, I guess I just do things that are best for⊠me?
Arkin: Okay, youâre not making any sense at all.
Sandrow: âŠ
Arkin: Thank you for today, Sandrow. I really need it to relieve some stress. Thank you for insisting that we should go out.
