“You didn’t ask to be my care taker.” Satan didn’t ask, no. It was a temporary arrangement that became permanent…Not as if Satan minded, Ari kept to themselves anyways and barely chatted. Both kept a respectful distance from one another, ‘til Asmo opened his mouth at dinner.
During dinner, the brothers were discussing how boring Satan made his birthday this year. Ari’s ears perked up at the fact.
“Oh right, we forgot to tell you hon!!”
Asmodeus waved his hand dismissively, uncaring of the fact Satan’s birthday was missed by some human that his family barely knows.
As Ari doesn’t have money, Diavolo was gracious enough to grant them a cool five thousand grimm. A sort for ‘pocket money’ in case Ari needed supplies and what-not.
“Right…”
On the upcoming weekend, Ari requested that Satan take them to the flower shop. Along the way, they chatted about how things work, and why. Plus a few fun facts about Satan that he was okay with sharing…
“We have the same system, brutal bellflowers are October’s flower.”
“Interesting…What’s the flower for January?”
Satan turned his gaze towards the human sitting at his side, the stare unwavering as he replied with that Cheshire grin.
“Soulful snowdrops, they’re quite beautiful, and glow at night. Though they are poisonous.”
The little witch chuckled, their worries slipping away like snow after winter.
“I’ll be sure not to eat them.”
Night quickly drew closer after the duo departed from their little shopping trip. The demon raised an eyebrow, did the human want to brighten up their room? There’s already faux wisteria hanging off the walls, whatever could they need a single bellflower for?
The answer came the next evening at Diavolo’s party. Luckily Asmodeus had an extra dress that surprisingly fit Ari to a T. The dress was taken, a simple black one with pockets! How convenient for Ari…Nevertheless, it fit and their hair was also done by Asmodeus, who harassed Ari to do their make up for Dia’s party. But Lucifer came in at the perfect time for Ari to use him as a shield.
“Asmo…Enough. Ari, stop using me as a shield, you’re not four.”
The human pouted and apologized, with much dismay…
The party was small to Ari’s surprise, for the acting(?) king of Devildom, it was only the other exchange students and the brothers. Ari’s eyes scanned the venue from above the railing at the top of stairs, their gaze searching for the blonde demon.
“Not joining the party?”
Diavolo’s butler, Barbatos, asked. Ari squealed, their voice letting out a yelp that would get them teased by the brothers if they had heard.
“WAH, What— Yes..I mean no! I’m just looking for Satan.”
The human’s hands clutched the box resting between their palms, exhaling ever so slowly out of misplaced fear.
“He’s with Asmodeus last I saw him, don’t be afraid of anyone here, I assure you that Diavolo made your stay as safe as possible.”
Barbatos reassuring them was what Ari needed to hear; it’s been barely a week of them staying here and they’re already dragged to a party?! A small party, but still! It’s a party and that’s all that matters to Ari.
“Thanks! Er…”
“Barbatos.”
“Can I call you Barbie?”
The glare the butler shot Ari was enough to send it into a coma.
“Right, no Barbie. Thanks again!!”
Their feet carried them down the steps of the velvet carpeted stairs. Nearly eating the said carpet on the last step by tripping, Ari picked themselves back up and approached Satan.
“What is it?”
He asked, Asmo peered over his brother’s shoulder, earning him a horrible sneer from Satan. That was enough to make Asmo back off, for now least.
“I got you a present too, I know your day passes but you didn’t ask to be my caretaker. It’s the least I could do.”
Their arms stretched out, holding the box for Satan. His fingers plucked it from their hold, gingerly moving the lid off the box. There before him was his birth flower pressed in a bookmark, with a small card pieced together with a borrowed marker and a sticker.
“Thank you, it’s quite thoughtful of you.”
