Title: New Beginnings Ratings: PG-13 For: ariadnamsaenz Pairings: TenTooxRose Prompt: Baby fic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Rose?" The Doctor’s voice was thick with sleep and his hair mussed, sticking up every which way. The blonde in question was currently missing and he yawned, rolling out of bed. Running a hand through his hair, he stood and pulled a t-shirt over his head. Walking out of their shared bedroom, he ran his thumb absentmindedly over his wedding band. Silly little trinket as it was, Jackie threatened him with death if he didn’t give Rose a nice wedding. (Rassilon forbid she ever learn that he managed to forget their previous wedding anniversary. Thankfully, Rose is veryforgiving.) He walked down the hall and past the living room. Pink converse sat by blue chucks and her blue coat-still soaked in Void Stuff and still rarely worn-hung at the hook by the door. He hadn’t expected her to leave the flat, but there was always the chance. It was rare for Rose to wake up before him, especially on a Sunday morning. In the kitchen, a folded up newspaper and a cup of tea sat on the table. He sat down at the table and stole a sip of the tea. Still too sweet,He thought. He scooped up the newspaper and flipped it to the front page. “Oh,” He breathed as he read the headline. ‘New Baby Royale Born Early this Morning.’ That would explain why he couldn’t find her. They’d been trying for years-three years, six months, forty three hours, twenty seven minutes and fourteen seconds to be precise-with no luck. He was still worried that it was his fault, or, well, the Time Lord’s fault. He really should have told us, He thought. A messy business with Rassilon and Looming. “Rose?” He called again, throwing the paper down on the table and standing. He walked out of the kitchen and down the hall. Walking past the look, he heard sniffling and paused. Knocking softly, he called: “Rose?” “Y-yeah?” She hiccupped and he furrowed his eyebrows. He leaned against the wall by the door, folding his arms across his chest. “You okay?” His voice was soft as he listened quietly. He heard the creak of the cabinet door and the shuffling of feet to the door. Seconds later, it swung open and there stood Rose, her hair piled on her head and her eyes red, but a small smile was on her face, likely to placate him. It didn’t work. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” She swallowed, nodding. She raised a hand to her cheek and brushed away the tears there. She sniffled again and nodded. He smiled faintly and caught an escaped tear with his thumb. “I saw the paper,” He said softly and her small smile cracked. He pulled her to his chest and held her. When she pulled away, she leaned up on her toes and kissed him. He could feel her tears on his own cheeks as he returned the kiss, his arms pulling her tighter. Her fingers threaded through his hair and he took a step forward. Her back was pressed against the wall behind her and his hands moved to her waist. He could feel the heat emanating off of her skin through he fabric of his shirt (she’d taken to wearing his t-shirts to bed). He deepened the kiss, brushing his tongue along hers. She sighed softly and closed her eyes as the kiss grew desperate. His heart ached and he could almost imagine that his second nonexistent heart was too, and he pulled back to breathe. Her face was flushed and her lips parted as she leaned her forehead against his chest. He wound his arms around her and closed his eyes. “Please?” She whispered, her own arms encircling his slim waist. He pressed his lips to her hair and knew he would give in. He’d give her anything she wanted in a heart beat. He could feel her breath against his collarbone and nodded. “Of course,” was his answer. “How about we stay in today?” He looked down at her and she nodded. He smiled and kissed her softly again. It wasn’t the first time she’d taken a test and they’d stayed in. Usually they would and sometimes they’d go out. More often then not, if they went out, it ended up with Rose giggly and hanging onto his arm as they stumbled up the stairs. Not safe, if you asked him, but it helped. They stood for a few minutes more, him holding her in his arms in the hall. The silence was broken by the ringing of the telephone and he sighed. “Go on, I’ll get it,” He said into her hair. “I’ll go find a movie,” She answered. She withdrew from his arms and walked into the living room and he into the kitchen. He picked up the phone and pressed it to his ear. “Took you long enough!” Came Jackie’s voice over the receiver and he sighed. “You take my daughter away to Scotland and then take forever to answer the phone.” He ran a hand over his face and gave a small smile to Rose as she passed by. “Jackie,” He cut her off as she started babbling on. The other line grew quiet. “She took another test this morning.” “What is it?” She asked quietly. He could practically hear her nervousness. “Negative. We’re staying in today.” The line was silent. He could hear Pete on the other side asking what was wrong. “I’m gonna go, Jackie.” When she answered with a hum, he hung up the phone. Spending the day on the couch with Rose was not something he was going to complain about. They stayed away from cable, opting for old movies. He laid behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and her head tucked under his chin. He could feel her form shaking against his chest with silent laughter and even quieter tears. The day went on the same, a few phonecalls from Jackie and a few to order out. It’d grown ever so slowly into a bad habit, calling for Chinese, or Thai, or even pizza and watching movies all day when it was negative. It’d been even worse when she miscarried the previous June. Hours later, they sat with Chinese take out boxes on the coffee table, along with a half empty bottle of wine and two empty glasses. Rose was straddling the Doctor, her hands buried in his hair and his hands resting under her shirt. Her lips crushed against his in a frantic kiss, and, returning it, he laid her back slowly against the couch, nipping at her bottom lip gently. Rose sighed softly, and the Doctor stood, carrying her back towards the room. The next day, The Doctor again stood outside the bathroom, Rose just on the other side of the door. His head was pounding with the beginnings of a hangover, not that he drank enough to actually get a hangover but the alcohol and the lack of sleep, along with the soreness of his muscles added to that. "Rose?" He asked, looking to the ground. There was no sound from the inside of the door. He knocked and the door swung open. Tears stained Rose's face, but a grin spread across her cheeks. A nervous giggle bubbled past her lips and she held up the test. A small, pink plus showed and the Doctor's eyes flashed to hers. "Really?" He breathed, and she nodded. "Really?" Rose nodded again and threw her arms around him, and his arms went around her waist and he lifted her in a hug, spinning around before setting her down and pressing his lips to hers.
