This spectacular pheasant is undoubtedly suffering from the twin threats of habitat loss and hunting throughout its extensive range. It is probably undergoing rapid population reduction and is consequently classified as Near Threatened by IUCN. I was 20 years old when I first ventured into the rainforest of Borneo. That was in 1988 and since then I've in total spent years inside this incredible place and it still fills me with awe and great humility everytime.
