SECOND DRAGON DRAWN FROM THE INHERITANCE CYCLE, SAPHIRA
I was hoping to get this done for the #fanartfriday thing that Christopher paolini does every week or so, but I didn't quite make it because by the time I got home and stayed up until way too early in the morning to finish it, it was Saturday lol.
STILL EVEN SO HE RETWEEDED IT ON TWITTER SO I CAN ONCE AGAIN DIE HAPPY
anyways, this is saphira, a dragon from his "inheritance" book series which you should all read if you're a fan of the fantasy genre, and if dragons make up an unhealthy portion of your personality like they do for me. I don't have a problem, I can stop whenever I want.
the first book in the series is "Eragon", followed by "Eldest", Brisingr" and "Inheritance", and they are all great books. Also, there's sort of an epilogue collection of short stories in the 5th book, "The fork, the witch and the worm". That book isn't a mandatory read, but I would still absolutely recommend it.
I've drawn Glaedr - a golden dragon, and one of Eragon's and Saphira's teachers - before, but I had a few issues with the finished work that,, after drawing him, I didn't have the motivation to fix, mostly because I'd already posted it everywhere. With saphira, I tried to keep those errors in mind to make her look a little better. The tail, for instance, looks a lot better in my opinion, because it actually has frills similar to her wings, to better indicate its purpose of serving as a rudder when she flies. I also made her appear more serpentine, with a longer neck and tail, and with larger wings, to sort of drive home what oromis said in book 2, in reference to her being more suited to the air than almost any other dragon in living memory.
This was a really fun one to draw, but given that It took me until like, 5 in the morning to finish, I might take a break from drawing another dragon from the series anytime soon, though I WILL be drawing all of them at some point.
Thorn will be my next project for sure. :D
