Pictured: Two Insecure dumbasses pushing their love interests away
I think the difference here, in the eternal Vox/Charlie parallels, is that while both Vaggie and Val can call our resident Insecurities Duo on their shit, Vaggie can empathize with why Charlie is acting this way - her problems with her mom and her need for validation - but Val can't empathize with what Vox is going through.
Val witnessed Al provoking Vox over how he 'needs' Val and Vel. He and Vel both know Vox isn't acting like this spontaneously just because he decided to be a dick; he's pushing them away to impress the person who's poking all his worst insecurities. But instead of taking him aside and saying "Screw what he says, we think you're amazing; you could maybe stand to acknowledge us more but babe, you contribute a ton and we think you're awesome', they get offended that he isn't paying them enough attention. We don't see them try to empathize with the pain that's driving all he does.
And that's why Charlie is able to pull back and not crash and burn, and Vox can't.
Though unfortunately - even with the fact that they do both have people in their lives you care about them, ultimately there is this deep unfillable void in both of them that no amount of love can fill. It’s something they they’ll both have to understand and fulfill themselves.
