I like the interplay of glass volumes on this builiding. I have a love hate thing with glass. On one hand i love the natural light it provides. I like all the varying shades its availble in. But there is the issue of heat gain. Altho they do sonders to mitigate this eith the advancment if materials. But still adds to the burden of HVAC units. Buildings add immensely to greenhouse gasses affecting our climate change. We have to buikd better buildings. This is what LEED. Is all about. But everything revolving around architecture seems to be geared towards elitist egotism rather than access and application. Maybe that's the wesren world for you. Maybe that cant be changed. I have a ton of questions but very few answers yet. But i work on a solution to a problem every day #archlife #archreview #architecrure #architecturaldesign #blackdesigners #colombianarchitecture #hotelarchitecture https://www.instagram.com/p/BxkK7bohfbl/?igshid=1jyrwhisyrddk
Wait a minute. A building in Atlanta i actually like?😂😂😂 The architecture in this city is so inconsistent and mediocre that it surprises me when i find something worth actually studying past a quick glance. But to be fair midtown is making some interesting structures. The building reminds me of a giant Jenga game. Transporting me back to playfully Stacked rectilinear blocks offset from one another while you use the basic architetural diaologue of "push & pull" to elicit change in volumetric relationships. The interesting thing here is the play of proportion being carried out. We see 4 balconies in relationship to 2 balconies. That breaks down to a 2:1 proportional system. This system also shows up in how the rectilinear mass is divided centrally to create two rows of windows. Each row representing a storie, altho the block reads as one mass do to the framing around the windows. This 2:1 proportional system is one of my favorites and is used in japanese architecture. IT IS derived from tatami mats. They were design to accomodate 2 people sitting. Or 1 person laying down. This was a cool little project in the city. Maybe ATL will finally develop a style of its own. But i wont hold my breath. #archlife #architecture #architecturereview #atlantaarchitecture #archreview #architecturaldesign #architecturephotography (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwr36mWhZ6i/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5g0vx346f29g

For this hotel to be on the beach its stature is very dominating. Not that it shouldnt be considering it significantly contribites to the skyline of cartagena. I enjoy the interchanging use of materials as it interacts with the spacial relationships of the building. Altho i did not make it inside you can clearly see the delineation of functions expressed in the design. The materials and massing very plainly represent the changing of functions thru out the building. The tallest part of the building is clearly the residential tower. Functioning as a glass box to provide views of the ocean. Will the lower half will house more public spaces such as restaurants lounges and meeting rooms. In opposition to the smaller building i posted before, the base of this building is heavy. It serves as a visual anchor. Due to its massing and material pallet it reads as a complex interplay of public and private spaces that generate dialogue not only within itself, but within the context of the tourist strip that is the skyline. As a chikd i played with wooden blocks in kindergarden and my structures played out similarly to this. Irs second nature to put the larger blocks in the bottom as a base. The hotel is clean cut and sharp. The edges beautifully finished and carefully detailed. The transition of materials happens abruptly all thru the design but still seems to flow with conviction. The sharpness creates more drama when viewd in relationship to a coast line that winds along without urgency. The conversations had between the building and the land are of a combative nature. Hard vs soft. Buisness vs leisure. Variety vs consistency. Independence vs. Natural selection. There is no end to the opposing forces that present themselves in architectural design. But this is also the very same dialogue carried out within man as he tries to conquer the forces of nature within himself as well as his external environment. Here you see man in all his contradictory glory. #architecture #archlife #archreview #architecturephotography #203narcostour #cartagenacolombia #beachlife #hotelarchitecture #hotelarchitectureanddesign #mixedmaterials #architecturehunter https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv_01Mkh0zD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ivobg73ovtpw
