But if you don't know anything about avant-garde or conceptual fashion, taken out of context, it does all seem bizarre. Such as this destroyed collar from Margiela's fall 2000 'oversized' collection. Yes it might look slashed, but Martin intentionally created it that way. The collar has been knit so that the cuts, holes and threads will not unravel any further. Perfect for winter as a scarf replacement, or perfect for unwanted comments by random people. But that's what the avant-garde is about: getting a reaction out of people . Whether it is positive or negative, and whether it is for aesthetic or conceptual reasons. So go forth and make people uncomfortable!
