Magariya (曲がり屋) is a L shaped farm house where the main building (living quarters) and the horse stable are connected. This type of architecture was commonly found around the former Morioka clan territory, especially Morioka city and the Tono basin of Iwate prefecture and other cold areas. Generally the east side where the kitchen is built and the horse stable protrudes towards the south. Smoke from the kitchen and furnace was discharged from the horse stable to keep the horse dry and warm and the hay could be dried at the same time. The people in Iwate cherished their horses and thought of them as part of their family so they began building their homes connected to the horse stable so it was easier for the residents to check on their horses at any time of day. #iwate #tono #thatchedroof #thatchedhouse #oldhouse #mountain #thatch #japan #beautifuljapan #mostbeautiful #kayabuki #iwate #kominka #architectureorgasm #iwantone #jalanjalan #oldjapan #tohoku #遠野 #ruralhouse #kokeshidoll #japanesetraditionalhouse #visitjapanau
